Any one seen Orphan, is it any good, I do love scary *** kids movies

I am thinking of going to see it, get the proposal stank off my moovie eyes.:)
I do love creepy kid flicks but Orphan was pretty mediocre. It's worth a rental or bittorent I suppose, but the "twist" (probably well known now) was not too surprising.

Give me Santi in The Devil's Backbone or It's Alive any day.

I hate it when people say twist, the minute they do I start wondering what it is and coming up with answers, I never think about it until someone says it.

I want to go to see it for B-movie style laffs is it worth this?

It is! It definitely has some darkly humorous moments and I will defend the film in that they clearly love the "creepy kid horror" genre. And the little girl- whose name escapes me- is really good imo.

The scariest movie I have ever seen has to be the Exercist. The first one. Still scary as hell after all these years. So if you haven't seen it and you don't mind being terrified, rent it out!

Yeah, it kinda makes me wanna watch it now, actually.

On a side note, watched The Haunting of Molly Hartley last night...
Any good? Wasn't it straight to dvd, maybe getting a limited theatrical release in one city in the darkest forests of Canada?
:p

Watching Inside right now. Hmph.

No :p it was in theatre!

It wasn't THAT bad. It had a good use of mystery and intrique to make you want to keep watching. The end was fun in the sense that it didn't all end with hugs and puppies and rainbows.

I wouldn't watch it again, but it was a good watch.

Are you liking Inside?

I am liking it. It's just like 15 minutes in though.
CG at the beginning was meh, but the opening credits were unique. And it has a wicked sense of humor I didn't expect; the nurse is funny in a really grim way.
Speaking of good film endings- did you ever make it to Drag Me To Hell? Looks like the dvd has an Oct. 20th release date here.

The movie that scared me the most in recent years was The Descent. I walked into the movie theater not knowing a thing about the movie and was trying to figure out what the "scary thing" in the movie was supposed to be and then BAM, I was taken completely off guard with what it turned out to be. I think it's the element of suprise that got me the most.

I thought 28 Days Later was brilliant. George Romero also is a recipient of my "thumbs-up" list often.

What is truly scary about these movies is not the zombies, but what humans can do.

That being said, specific movies that have scared me recently:

Silence of the Lambs
Red Dragon
The Ring / Ringu
Seven

Agreed. Campy zombie movies are fun (and I get to live vicariously through the main characters that get to pull out the sawed-off shotguns, the battle axes, and the riding lawn mowers to chew up the undead.)

But.......

Scary zombie movies are those that successfully make me squirm when I think about pulling out a sawed-off shotgun and popping a few.

Both 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later were amazing in how terrifying the scenarios were and what evil humans are capable of.

I loved 28 Days'!
It's hard to think of a genuinely scary zombie film since the ones I like are mainly Romero's and he's more interested in social commentary than scaring the audience. The first half of 28 Days Later was nerve wracking; I also think Fulci's City of the Living Dead is disturbing if not outright scary; and I really loved Les Revenants even though it's not horrific, just melancholy and haunting.
