What is the scariest movie that you have ever seen?

Yeah, Expelled, Hell House and Jesus Camp are pretty high on my list.

The American remake of the Ring or Ringu? I liked both, but slightly prefer Ringu if only 'cause I saw it first. And Sadako was far creepier in the original Japanese release.

I'm a huge horror fan and rarely find horror films frightening, but Session 9 is one of those rare films that was disturbing and got under my skin- if only they'd edited the last 10 minutes or so it would've been far more effective. Nakata's Dark Water was also an amazing horror film that was genuinely scary and melancholy (which made the horror all the more powerful). Alien terrified me as a kid, as did Carpenter's The Thing. The Haunting still has some scary scenes even after having seen it so many times- some of the best use of auditory cues to scare the audience.

See, I'm going to have to go with Ju-On, rather than Ringu for scary. I enjoyed Ringu a lot, but Ju-On got under my skiiiiin! Seeing it in an old, decrepit theatre with just one other person in there, 6 aisles back probably didn't help much either.

And I'll agree with Session 9, both on the creepy factor and the last ten minutes factor. I adore that movie though.

See, I don't find The Orphanage scary, I find it sad. But then, I'd already seen The Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth, so I kinda knew what to expect.

I LOVED Backbone! The part where the kid is hiding in the closet and the camera pans to the keyhole.... etc etc, made me jump out of my fricken chair, even though I was expecting it.

OK so I haven't seen this one posted yet. If you are by yourself and at night, try watching "The Evil Dead" Part 1

It was perhaps the scariest movie as a teenager I saw. I believe it was Sam Raimi's first movie, he also did the Grudge 1 and 2 and 30 days of night.

Sam Raimi didn't do any of the Grudge's or 30 Days of Night.

Takashi Shimizu did the Grudge 1 & 2 and David Slade did 30 Days of Night.

Next on my list is my second favorite scary movie of all time is the little known movie called Shrooms. The reason this is scary is because shrooms are real, and can REALLY f you up if you are in the wrong environment.
Here is the trailer

Shrooms didn't scare me, but I did enjoy it immensly. The twist at the end was incredibly well done, and one I didn't see coming at all.

Agreed on the end, but I have to say it was a fresh approach in this modern day of scary films to choose from.

Late at night by yourself, watching it out in the woods while camping on a portable TV and DVD player, will scare you a little when you have to go pee outside :)-

I completely agree. It seemed like it would be silly when I bought it, but it was there, and there wasn't much else to buy that I didn't already have, so I picked it up. I watched it a couple of weeks later and was really impressed with it. I honestly thought it would suck, but I highly enjoyed it.

I'd wager that Nepenthe cried like a dumpster baby on prom night the first time he saw Blair Witch. "I'm so scared". :p
Whoa... Don't make me start up on Tim Burton now. Just 'cause I have two friends with Nightmare' tats means nothing to me- I'll pull no punches dammit!
