What is wrong with Islam?

How can a man who was known for being trustworthy can become a pirate?
It happens to many people. We all thought we could trust Jimmy Savile at one point, and then he turned out to be one of the worst sex offenders in British history. Ted Bundy worked for the Samaritans, didn't stop him from being a serial killer. John Wayne Gacy was a clown entertaining children; he was also a serial killer.

Were they all known for trustworthy and honesty?

He was schizophrenic.

Before the revelation of the Holy Qur’an, the Holy Prophet could neither write with his own hand nor could he read anything written by the others. How could have then the prophet authored such an unmatchable book by himself.

Why do you believe that? I have seen Muslim scholars argue that this is very unlikely - this was a successful businessman operating in the Middle Eastern trade routes, working with people from different communities. His being illiterate in that context doesn't make sense.

It's likely that many merchants at the time were illiterate.

According to who?

In any case, were he illiterate this isn't entirely relevant, because in my view Muhammad likely communicated his revelations in prose, and during the later compilation from various people's memories certain versions of poetry which attempted to encapsulate were collected to produce the Qur'an.

Literacy was not a prerequisite for having a career circa 600 A.D. Literacy was a skill of the very educated.

OK, right, but being a merchant it would be an indispensable tool during this time period.

I was convinced of this by Reza Aslan, a Muslim scholar, although I hadn't really thought about it before.

In the ancient world there were even kings and emperors who were illiterate.

That is tangential to the point.

For a slightly off-centre view from within Islam, on this and many other issues, I'd highly recommend Reza Aslan's 'No god but God'.

For a way off-centre view from within Islam, on all sorts of things, I'd even more highly recommend Michael Muhammad Knight's 'Journey to the End of Islam'.

MUSLIMS ATTACK CHRISTIANS IN AMERICA OVER SHARIA LAW AND CHRISTIANS WIN LAWSUIT!
You do know Christians have attacked Atheists just for being Atheist, don't you? Both groups have a nasty history when it comes to people who aren't of their religion, but especially with those who are of the same religion. It makes absolutely no sense, at all, to so viciously target Islam but pretend Christianity is innocent and peaceful. Here in the West, particularily in America, Islam is not a danger or a threat, but rather it is Conservative Christianity that poses a threat to the rights of millions, to a proper science and sex education (making them responsible for teenage pregnancy and STI transmissions), and they want everyone to be subjected to their own views on morality under penalty of law. Often times we even find they are unconcerned with the environment because they believe Jesus is coming back during their life times, and he's going to burn up everything anyways (yes, some actually do believe Global Warming is not a problem because it is a fulfillment of prophecy). People are so eager to tear apart Islam but they don't realize Muslims are not the threat we face, and our threat is already here.
But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me. Luke 19:27

This wise man talks a lot of sense about the Islamic Terrorism threat that we are facing.
