What was the worst year of your life?

When I was 37, I lost my business, my wife, my house, my books, my pets, etc. -- lost most everything that I either owned at the time or had built my self-identity on. In short, I lost nearly everything.

Oddly enough, it wasn't the worse year of my life. It was one of the better years because I ended up being changed for the better.

But it took me awhile to understand that.

2017-2018 has also been bad for me now that I think about it, because I've had to watch my country go increasingly down the drain since Trump entered office- and watch it go down the gutter on empathy, sympathy, and intelligent discourse. That certainly hasn't helped make my worse year any better.

I'm really curious on the full story. Hope you don't mind me asking. :). If that's too personal then please just ignore this.

I don't know what year. It was over a decade ago.

I was a very shy, timid person lacking self esteem and confidence. Always a pessimist. Didn't feel like my life was going anywhere. I was depressed. I started seeing a therapist and she helped me with skills to better myself.

Well now... I don't remember the last time I was depressed. I'm an introvert but definitely not shy and probably am a bit over confident. I just have a strong belief that things will work out. And they usually do. :). If they don't, I just brush it under the rug and move on.

Thank you so much for your very kind interest.

Depending on what you mean by "full story", the story could be quite long. I tried tonight to write up something for you -- a brief summary or synopsis of the story -- but what I came up with seemed both so boring and so superficial that I deleted it. I'll give it another try today or tomorrow to see if I can better answer you question.

How sudden or gradual was the transition?

For me, that would be last year, 2017; man, what an awful year that was.

What year was the worst for you, guys?

2012, tying closely with 2013. I left religion in 2012 while living in Saudi Arabia, where leaving Islam is punishable by death, with a conservative family. I had to make do without professional help or any emotional support from anyone around me while dealing with severe depression.

On the bright side, those two years taught me that few things in life are as valuable and worth persevering for as intellectual integrity, being true to oneself, and freedom of thought.

1985. I was thrown violently into a situation with no friends, no references, no familiar places or friends and a level of pressure that still haunts me.

It was quite the nightmare.

Just wait till 2020 when he's re-elected. You'll think this year was a walk in the Deer Park.

2017 was bad, my hubby was diagnosed with cancer. 2018 made that all go away when he recieved the all clear earlier this month. So i would have to say 1984, 1996 and 2009 for reasons i don't wish to discuss other than to say they destroyed my faith in christianity and human nature.
