still, the bible you hold in your hand is a consequence from constantine...
his reign was a turning point for the church...which sprouted from weeds, as you call it...all while constantine was worshiping the sun god a long side the christian god.
acts 20:29-30 is about the jews who did not believe christ as messiah.
"men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them." there is not one word about traditions here. he knew he wouldn't be back and this is his final plea to stay faithful waiting for the return of jesus that was "at hand".
Yes after the end of first-century Christianity, began a worshiping of pagan sun god concepts and ideas along side of Scripture or the Christian God.
This blending or fusing created not true Christianity but Christendom or counterfeit Christianity.
As far as their getting their hands, so to speak, on Scripture, there was no way they could go against Bible canon, or which books would be part of the Bible because God is the Author of the Bible. God informs us that his hand was not short and God was actually the overseer of what Books he wanted as canon.
see 2nd Tim 3vs16,17. Internal harmony, corresponding and parallel verses and passages, also helps confirm Scripture.
After Pentecost the Christian congregation was established.
Acts 20v21 includes both Jews and Greeks. So the congregation of God in verse 28 was now the Christian congregation that Paul gave warning in verses 29,30. False Christian shepherds would be fleecing the Christian flock of God.
So the apostles acted as a restraint against these 'weeds' or wolf-like clergy.
Once the apostles were gone, as Jesus said wheat [genuine Christians] would grow together with weed [fake Christians] until the time of separation or the time of Matthew 25v32 directly ahead of us. How people are now reacting to Matthew 24v14 is a basis for Jesus judgment of the people of Matt 25v32.
Words like 'immediately' in Scripture do not always mean immediately in time sequence, but rather the next thing to occur in a line of events.
Such as Matthew 24v29 bridges a long period of time to the modern day tribulation point of Matt 24v21.
Just as in the year 70 the political/military Romans proved to be the abomination of Matt 24v15, in its major or modern-day fulfillment the political/military 'ax', so to speak, will also be used.
The world sees a hauntingly dangerous religious climate brewing.
With backing the UN can be strengthened to serve as God's 'ax' against the world's religions that have run afoul playing false to God and his Word.
These weed-like religions think they sit as a 'queen' that will never see mourning. Since they do not collapse on their own, it will come as a shock that the political 'kings' or world rulers turn on her.
