Greetings. Thanks for responding to my comments. Yes, one would try not to displease his/her beloved, but the reason one does this is love of the beloved not fear of displeasing the beloved isn't it? Isn't Love the driving force? Forgive me if my questions seem pushy; just trying to understand your viewpoint.
My memory is drawing on something read over forty years ago, but as recalled 'another' refers to any other human being, Muslim or not.
Is doing 'for the sake of' the same as doing 'to avoid displeasure of' ?
Our relegion islam is a favor from Allah revealed to his massengers in order
to bring us glad tiding and to warn us.
to warn us from his displeasure, and to tell us about the great reward for those Who avoided satan's temptations.
Qura'an The Tabel 5:18-19
[18] (Both) the Jews and the Christians say: "We are sons of Allah, and His beloved." Say: "Why then doth He punish you for your sins? Nay, ye are but men, of the men He hath created: He forgiveth whom He pleaseth, and He punisheth whom He pleaseth: and to Allah belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between: and unto Him is the final goal (of all)."
[19] O People of the Book! now hath come unto you, making (things) clear unto you, Our Messenger, after the break in (the series of) Our Messengers, lest ye should say: "There came unto us no bringer of glad tidings and no warner (from evil)"; but now hath come unto you a bringer of glad tidings and a warner (from evil). And Allah hath power over all things.
Note that the shortest line between two points is the staright line.
so any attempt to deviate from the straight path is vain attempt and it means nothing but delaying your arrival.
so, to follow the straight path which take you to Allah, you have to Avoid his displeasure because when you displease him the path will darken and you will not be able to see it.
Iron [57:12-15]
[12] One Day shalt thou see the believing men and the believing women; How their Light runs forward before them and by their right hands: (their greeting will be): "Good News for you this Day! Gardens beneath which flow rivers! to dwell therein for aye! this is indeed the highest Achievement!"
[13] One Day will the Hypocrites - men and women - say to the Believers: "Wait for us! let us borrow (a light) from your Light!" it will be said: "Turn ye back to your rear! then seek a light (where ye can)!" so a wall will be put up between them, with a gate therein. Within it will be Mercy throughout, and without it, all alongside, will be (Wrath and) Punishment!
[14] (Those without) will call out, "Were we not with you?" (The others) will reply, "True! but ye led yourselves into temptation; ye looked forward (to our ruin); ye doubted (Allah's Promise); and (your false) desires deceived you; until there issued the Command of Allah. And the Deceiver deceived you in respect of Allah.
[15] "This Day shall no ransom be accepted of you, nor of those who rejected Allah; your abode is the Fire: that is the proper place to claim you: and an evil refuge it is!"
Satan want to tempt us to displease Allah ,thus to deserve hell fire for our sins.
So as a muslim I will be careful to Avoid his displeasure in order to keep crossing the straight path and to be able to reach his Paradise.
This life is like an Exam , you have to avoid mistakes in order to pass, regardless you love the instructor or not.
Mat 25:1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
Mat 25:2 And five of them were wise, and five [were] foolish.
Mat 25:3 They that [were] foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
Mat 25:4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
Mat 25:5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
Mat 25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
Mat 25:7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
Mat 25:8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
Mat 25:9 But the wise answered, saying, [Not so]; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
Mat 25:10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
Mat 25:11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
Mat 25:12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
