Where is the outrage over Nun beachwear?

Nuns are women. lol

As has been pointed out, nuns are ascetics who voluntarily take vows and renounce the wider world to be closer to God. Muslim women in many cases (I would say 'most cases') are just born into a culture that tells them they must cover themselves to avoid the attentions of men. They're taught to take responsibility for men's wants & needs through veiling and that women who choose not to veil must have something wrong with them, or are sexually promiscuous, or are impious.

The burkini ban is ridiculous, they are forcing women to not wear the burkini because there are women who are forced to cover..makes sense.

Does this mean they're going to ban the scuba diving wetsuits next or maybe long sleeves shirts and trousers

When was the last time a woman was ****-shamed, accused of impiety or sexual promiscuity or told that she invites rape & sexual harassment for not wearing a scuba suit or long-sleeve shirts or trousers?

Yeah, thought not.

We're defending against what we see as an undesirable intrusion into wider European cultures - just as the Moroccans are doing by protesting the burkini ban in their own country. They've even gone so far as to call it the "rudeness of the new colonisation". And I love how nobody is criticising them.

Body-coverings in Muslim societies are inextricably linked to a culture of ****-shaming and victim-blaming where women are seen as deserving of rape or harassment if they don't cover themselves 'properly' or even at all. We don't want that here.

You never read about outrage of ANY kind over what men are wearing. It's as though no matter what a woman wears, she's always somehow in the wrong.
Then you haven't been around much

I know. And nothing of the kind is EVER aimed at men. That's what I'm getting at.

Western women have a choice as to what they wear. They choose to objectify themselves, encouraging the patriarchy and, in some instances, the misogyny.

The irony is deafening.
And there's a lot of Western women converting to Islam who chose to cover themselves. Most Muslims in the US are African-Americans, for example.

Yes it should also go with nuns, here in Australia nuns don't wear the cover anymore, I also was being more towards full face cover.
Nuns and religious sisters aren't necessarily the same things in Catholicism: http://anunslife.org/resources/sister-or-nun

The ones you see dressed like this are religious sisters who are usually involved in charity work in the community:

During Vatican II, they relaxed some of the dress requirements for religious sisters. But nuns will wear the habit, just like monks will wear the habit (or robes) of their orders.

Best Answer: It followed Vatican 2 (1962-1965). Sweeping changes were made to the Church. Nuns were permitted first to wear a softer habit that essentially looked like a uniform type dress and a shorter veil. That was in 1964, A few years later they were allowed to wear ordinary clothes provided they were modest. Nuns often have a cross on the lapels of their blouses/shirts.

There are still some closed orders who wear habits but few nuns working among people do.

This what I found about nuns in Australia..

Yeah, usually the ones wearing the more "relaxed" clothing are older Western women. I've actually never seen a young sister dressed like that. The younger ones seem to be more drawn towards tradition. Non-Western orders are generally more conservative, as well.
