Where is the outrage over Nun beachwear?

The ugly hypocrisy of West is exposed by the West themselves.

Where’s the Outrage Over Nun Beachwear?

SABAUDIA, Italy — Go to any public beach in Italy and chances are you’ll eventually see a woman wearing a veil and long skirt. But she likely won’t be a Muslim in a version of the controversial burqini. She will almost certainly be a Catholic nun in her summer habit either watching children in her care or, God forbid, just enjoying some sun, which is considered a human right here in Italy, where the sea defines the majority of the borders.

Nuns choose to take a vow of chastity and never get married. You might have a point if all Catholic women had to cover themselves at the beach, but they don't. I think it's wrong for men to be able to wear bathing suits but women not be able to or be looked down upon throughout a religious population. That's the difference.

It also isn't the same as covering the face by any stretch of the imagination.

Can you provide some examples?
There is no shortage of tales of girls that were pressured into life as nuns without being asked or told about other options.

We tend to gloss over it, because traditionally Catholicism is not too fond of personal freedoms in the first place.

I fear the evidence I have is rather indirect, anedoctal even. It is something of a folk meme here in Brazil, even.

To this day Brazilians have not quite let go of the idea that the parents should decide what their children should do with their lives. Sometimes that took (takes?) the form of a parent (often the mother) deciding on the child's behalf that she is destined to become a nun. It is called "making a promise", despite the affected part being the child of the promising party.

More than one popular Brazilian soap opera had the girl who was pressured into life as a nun by her mother against here wishes as a main staple. These two specifically:

Nuns are volunteers.

It is really not very clear what you mean to say here. Are you claiming that Muslimahs are never pressured into wearing full clothing at the beach, perhaps?

Now you are being silly.

Ofcourse they are not pressured. They want to cover up themselves for the sake of Allah.

But then again they are oppressed and nuns are not , according to islam haters.

I just cant help it that most catholics dont care about their own religion. Clearly from bible we read that a woman should cover her hair, wear veil. In all paintings of Mary we see her wearing veil. Obviously the modern catholics came with new religion...?

Maybe modern catholics are better than Mary?

Forgive this person who has been raised among Catholics for having solid doubts on this regard, then.

I have met far too many people, faro too often, who presumed to know what I should do "for the sake of God" and forgot to even consider whether I should have any choice.

But then again they are oppressed and nuns are not , according to islam haters.

Yep, and to critics of Islam as well. You got that pretty much right.

I don't particularly doubt that you might disbelieve that outright, for what it is worth.

It is not unusual for people raised under oppressive atmospheres to fail to even notice that oppression, or to quite picture any alternatives.

I just cant help it that most catholics dont care about their own religion.
It is true that most Catholics (Brazil, as it turns out, has the largest Catholic population in the whole world) have only a vague, often incoherent idea of what being a Catholic is supposed to mean. To the point that many claim to believe in reincarnating spirits as well, even.

Many others are openly "cultural catholics" - basically, people who will not deny being catholics because they would rather not cause unease in the family (and for no other reason). It is not even unusual for people to point out that they have reasons for being Catholics "despite everything".

I am not sure whether it is possible for people to truly not care about their own religion, though. About the religion they were saddled with by the expectations of others, certainly. But presumably not about one of their own choice.

Clearly from bible we read that a woman should cover her hair, wear veil. In all paintings of Mary we see her wearing veil. Obviously the modern catholics came with new religion...?
One would hope so. Religion is supposed to be vital, not stagnate.
Maybe modern catholics are better than Mary?
They should not fear eventually learning better than Mary, certainly. Assuming there was even a historical Mary in the first place, that is.

Oddly, I think your comment is ridiculous, but that's just me.If certain members wish to sound profoundly stupid let them be.

:)
Personally, I don't see how anyone could think her attire is reasonable for lounging on a beach. Diving, perhaps, but hey... I don't think we should ban what people want to wear no matter how silly it makes them look.

Do you really think that there aren't nuns who were pushed into it by their society or culture?
Obviously it is, but the habits of nuns is not a society-wide phenomena, certainly not on the order imposed by Islamic dogmatic thinking. The two are not really comparable.

Where does it say that catholics should cover their hair and wear veils? Obviously there is no requirement to dress as people did thousands of years ago, so your mention of Mary is ludicrous.

So mary just took the veil for the sake of veil without religious meaning?

Oddly, I think she look ridiculous, but that's just me. If women wish to look profoundly stupid let them be.
This looks far less ridiculous to me than a woman in high heels, miniskirt, and plunging neckline under her "wrap" trying to negotiate an icy sidewalk during a snowstorm.

The French view (which I support) is that your beliefs are your own but you actions are part of society. Women who adopt so-called Islamic dress are making a statement (whether voluntarily or not): "I am not part of your society and I don't want to be." The obvious retort is "So what are you doing here?"

I know, really, eh? That said, it is a bit peculiar to wear this for the beach. I suppose if you are diving, then sure, but it's more a twisted form of morality. Swimming, I suppose, but not terribly great if you wanted to get a tan. Personally, I've no issues with the human body and I'm not sure why some human animals do. Their God made them naked and yet you don't see any Muslim Nudist colonies due to their warped sense of morality. LOL.

It is to us. I used to belong to a naturist resort. Once you've seen everything, well. ....
You've seen everything.

Modesty is such a self reinforcing cultural meme. Men who have rarely seen so much as a female ankle are going to get warped in a way that makes feminine modesty a security issue. If your world is full of ordinary boobs and butts and dicks you stop noticing them sexually and start seeing them as part of being a human.

And so if a woman goes to the beach wearing a wet suit, will she suffer the same fate as wearing a burkini?
As I said, the burkini is making a statement. The wetsuit means she's going diving, the burkini means she's rejecting the society in which she lives. And how typical that you found a defence in the Guardian, the most dementedly PC paper in the UK.

I wonder how many Muslims would agree that the burkini is a symbol of rejecting society.

I would wager to bet they look at it as a way to enjoy the beach without compromising their religious principles.
