Hinduism. I am Hindu because I believe that empiricism never tells you what reality really is, but only as it apparent to is, and only rationalism tells is what reality really is. And what is it? Reality is all Brahman - pure and infinite consciousness. Eveything else is just a holographic projection that arises due to our senses and mind misinterpreting reality. In order to see reality as it really is we must reverse the ignorance caused by our senses and mind through the practice of Yoga. Then we will discover that it is all just Brahman and we are all fragments of that Brahman via which Brahman is experiencing all of existence.

Hey, we could become a majority. If we do, then we could take over.
Then we could impose our agenda, which is......is......is...... What is our agenda?

As best I can tell, being extremely annoying and pretending that reading Dawkins is somehow preferable to chewing on glass.

Nah... atheists don't have an agenda. That's what makes us so hard to attack. For instance, your Dawkins comment isn't insulting to me - I've heard of the guy, but I've never read his work, and probably never will.

So it looks like atheists have overtaken Christians in the poll. After my vote, we're up 4 votes. But we still only have 21%, so we're not exactly a majority.

I think it's funny that the most people who are on Religious Forums voted Atheist :D
Why?

I'm new here, so correct me if I'm wrong, but this doesn't strike me as a place to come and study your own religion. If you're a Christian who wants to know more about Christianity, there are Christian specific sites for discussion of Bible study or whatever other sub-topics they're interested in. Same with other religions, and atheism. I'm sure many of those single religion sites will have more thorough discussions for believers than coming here, where the discussions cover a broader range of topics, but probably don't go as deep in each one.

But a forum about all religions is a place for people to come and discuss what others believe, rather than just focusing on their own beliefs. Yes, discussing your own beliefs (to help others understand you) will be part of that, but interaction with people who don't follow your own religious path, comparing and contrasting of different beliefs, seems to be the whole point here.

I'm an atheist who didn't come here looking for a religion to join, or to try and convince any religious believers of my point of view. I'm here for the same reason I majored in history in college - curiosity about the world around me.

Actually the vast majority are theists.... not atheist/agnostic/secular/humanist.

339 to 94... hands down to the theists.

I wonder how many of the 94 are actually atheists as opposed to agnostic, secular or humanist.

I have knowledge of many religions and their holy books throughout history and cultures, but I do not have any wisdom of God.
Actually I really don't care enough about the subject, and find it to be so insignificant to my life that I don't care to go more in depth than to acknowledge that I don't know.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but those of the Abrahamic faiths alone, Christianity alone trailing by only a few votes, out number atheist. And 21.6% of the votes is such a huge majority.

I consider myself a follower of Jesus Christ but I do not consider myself a Christian in the orthodox way. I also have great respect for other major world religions that the typical followers of Jesus Christ do not look favorably upon. When I read the scriptures I come up with understandings most Christians find absurd. I definitely do not fit in any of the other categories.

Well, let me see here...I chose other because I am a mixture. I am Kemetic Orthodox, UU, Demonolator/Satanist, Dharmic (with Shaivite leanings), Chaote/Discordian

So, as you can see, I just put 'amalgam' next to my name. :)

I had to choose "other." I am pantheistic, meaning that I believe god and the universe are one in the same. I chose not to vote "Theism - nondenominational" because I don't see my views as being conventionally theistic.

Much the same but do stress the kind of "god" I believe in for want of a better word is not a sentient conscious god but just the blind and reckless forces of nature. I find it far more satisfying to come to terms with such a god than the kind of god inflicts wilful damage on innocent people with earthquakes, tsunamis and whatnot
