Who were the Christians? De Santis's GOP or Martha's Vineyard plain folk?

Hmmm... they were removed for Martha's Vineyard.

In that Florida has helped millions and Martha Vineyard's people threw out the 50 (in a place where there are nothing but millionaires), I would vote that DeSantis exemplified more Christian love than those up north at the Vineyard. :)

Interesting how just 50 people can upset a community. One title:
Martha's Vineyard deports 50 migrants to Cape Cod military base

So much for love.

Also interesting, how you use CNN as the place for biased information.
The millitary base has the proper housing and shelter for these people. Thus relocation there till their immigration status is resolved is both proper and humane.

Joint Base Cape Cod -- already an emergency shelter designated by the state emergency management agency -- is set up to provide "a safe temporary accommodation appropriate for the needs of families and individuals," Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker's office.

The migrants "will be housed in dormitory-style spaces at JBCC, with separate spaces accommodating both individuals and families," and families will not be separated, it said. They will have access to services including legal, health care, food, hygiene kits, and crisis counseling, according to Baker's office.

The migrants sent to Martha's Vineyard have been voluntarily taken to a military base for support, officials say | CNN Politics

Anybody who supports De Santis here has forgotten what morality is, in my opinion.

Non-Christian complaining about Christians not being Christian enough! Cherry picking the words of a man you don't even believe in is just more heckling from the grandstands.

Jesus wasn't an enabler; he didn't set out to create a professional class of alms seekers or create sanctuary for law breakers. There are sanctuary cities and states all over America who undermine border security and the legal immigration system by protecting those who enter the country illegally. This creates an underground society wherein immigrants are exploited, are underpaid and lack access to protections under the law.

If the rich and famous of Marthas Vinyard want to provide sanctuary, they should take illegal aliens into their homes and find jobs for them.

(D)'s are weak on crime and have no spine to enforce a border so consequently border states bear the burden of a failed federal border protection.

The message of Leftist hypocrites is "not in OUR neighborhood"!

Many of the jobs there are seasonal though.

It is in the nature of all living creatures to try and survive, and it is in the nature of most living creatures to try to protect their young. The places many migrants are coming from are so dangerous, many feel there is no other hope than finding somewhere else to be. That is to say, they feel their decisions have been forced upon them.

Now I grant, there is no law saying that a rich nation has to put up a single one of the. But if that nation is also hell-bent on making sure everybody knows it's a "Christian nation," I rather think they would entertain at least a tiny hint of that compassion that Christ encouraged.

The OT is very pro-immigrant.

The right has plans to reduce abortions, self control and adoptions are both well supported.

Sex Ed in school has been shown many times to be less than helpful in changing behaviors.

stable family work well.

many on the right give money and time to help. It’s not federal government or nothing.

I don’t know anyone on the right who objects to men supporting their kids that a core value.

Much needs to be done, but not by the government
Sadly, charity is subject to generosity and a good economy. It can't help in a global and stable way like government does. I wish that were different.

Teaching abstinence doesn't change behavior either. That tends to be where the religious right focus, and it doesn't work. So what do we do? I think if issues were dealt with as a health precaution, people might heed it better. So many come at it as a moral issue and people will tune out. Health, on the other hand, at least is more realistic and practical.

Adopted kids end up with behavior issues due to feelings of rejection. I think that infertile couples should be allowed to help raise the children as extended family members, not so much as parents. To me, that would be a win-win, unless there was abuse in the bio family.

I didn't mean to say that the right were not for men's support. I just think we need to focus our efforts on having that happen more than resorting to welfare. Not casting blame on one side or another on this one.

If you caught a self-professed vegan eating meat, would you have to be be a vegan as well in order to call them out?: There is nothing wrong with pointing out two-faced hypocrisy and double standards. People should be held to account when they don't practice what they preach.

Christians don't preach undermining immigration laws to begin with. If the insincere Left thought those were future Republicans climbing over the fence, then "suddenly" they would be stricken with common sense and find a spine!

DeSantis sends migrants to Martha’s Vineyard, causing ‘humanitarian situation’

Donations poured in and volunteers rushed to help: Here's how Martha's Vineyard communities responded to the arrival of migrants | CNN

Matthew 25:35-40

35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

I trust U.S, Christians would mostly support U.S. foreign aid paid directly to the head of low-income households in the Northern Triangle countries of Central America (Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador). I'm confident most U.S, Christians would gladly approve of U.S. taxpayer funded financial aid in the amount of $165 per month paid directly to head of low-income household Latin Americans. who are from age18 to age 40 and who are the head of the lowest 4 million low-income households in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. Eligible participants of this aid just needing to provide a copy of their utility bills addressed to them at a low-income neighborhood location and documentation of the aid recipients being age18 to 40. This nearly $8 billion of annual U.S. foreign aid being paid directly to impoverished Central Americans would circumvent corrupt Central American officials. This economic assistance would be an incentive for Central Americans to remain in their native homeland, thereby solving many of the Western Hemisphere's migrant challenges. The cost of this U.S. foreign aid could be paid by reducing U.S. foreign aid to other nations. This eight-billion-dollar annual investment towards the Northern Triangular Central American nations would save U.S. taxpayers and Christian charitable donors the cost of having to help care for hundreds of thousands of Latin American migrants.

Canadians, who have Immigration and Refugee Protection Act - Wikipedia telling Americans what they should do about unlawful entry into America! Thats rich!
Well, at least we have a national act, that includes prescriptions for how to deal with emergencies, humanitarian efforts, and the like.

Does the US? Or is this just another one of those things that are left (because Republicans prefer it) to "states rights" to decide?

Updated Estimate of the Number of Illegal Aliens in Florida

  • The illegal alien population in Florida is now 950,000 persons. This represents 7.3 percent of the national total illegal alien population, and it is the nations fourth largest concentration of illegal aliens after California, Texas and New York. It is also about 5.2 percent of Floridas overall population.
Illegal Immigration - FL Facts

They aren't just Cubans, of course.

My parents were able to enter the US during a time of mostly open immigration. They came to create a better life which I benefited from. Many today are here for that same reason, work as hard as my parents did and succeeded.

I've supported and helped a group that does not ask people about their status, but rather helps those in need because they're to us the "least".

I was torn up by one little girl's comment when she picked out a toy. The volunteer said it would look on her bed. She said "I have no bed"

She and those like her are truly the least. And if America is ever going to live up to its Godly ideals, it's time we changed our attitude toward people like her and her parents.

"In selfless service, the comfort of others is our convenience, their health our own healing, their happiness our delight. Giving one’s life for others, one gains more life for oneself. Sheltering others in one’s heart makes one inhabit theirs. An act of helpfulness, a word of comfort, the spontaneous warmth of selfless love, gives to others what they greatly need. Their natural thoughts of gratitude and goodwill that flow from this, the heightened surge of their spirit, and the increased flow of pure love released by a selfless act bring to the giver infinitely more than he can ever give. Then at last is unlocked the key to lasting happiness!" - Dr. Carol WeylandConnor

The illegal immigrant is my brother, the hungry woman is my sister and the girl without a bed is my daughter.

My wife and her family are immigrants. We started our marriage with a rattan rug, a snowy black and white TV and a mattress. I thank God that my grandmother bought us a set of aluminum cheap pots and pans.

In Venezuela, my wife lived in a old style colonial home where the three sisters slept together in a full size bed. When it rained, they put pots to catch the water. On a night of playing dominoes, I caught over 20 mice. Other rooms were rented out... community kitchen and one bathroom. Maybe a total of 5 families.

We have a mission in Honduras to help what are really called "the poor".

I am not calloused to the need of my brother and my sister.

I have also learned that the answer isn't "open the borders with no controls". Actually, it is still a bandaid... the answer is to help the countries start businesses. They are filled with vast resources.

It is also a corrupt political system (as we can see in our own country)

We have also helped illegals. My brother in law was also an illegal - snuck in stuffed in the trunk of a car with others.

We have a process for obtaining work visas and applying for citizenship. Illegal aliens cut in line and ignore the laws. The official count is roughly 14,000,000 unauthorized persons in America. Immigrate

because republicans prefer it? “We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked, and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, and lawfully to become immigrants in this country.” Barack Obama

DeSantis and crew were uncharitable liars and - as you point out - hypocrites.

In that moment, it was charitable of the people on Martha's Vineyard to help, but anyone who has a fancy beachfront home on Martha's Vineyard hasn't exactly been following Jesus's instruction to give up their posessions and take up a life of itenerant proselytizing with nothing but the shirt on their back and a begging bowl.

But if illegals do reach your shores, what's the humane answer then? Do you separate children from families, as the Trump administration did (some who will never be re-united again)? Do you summarily ship them back, without worrying whether they face persecution or execution (not our business, really)?

Illegal immigrants happen, and not just in the US. We have them in Canada. They have them in Britain, and in France, and in Germany, Hungary, Turkey, Finland...you name it. And all of those countries, because they are to some extent civilized, at least make an effort to do "the right thing," not just the expedient thing.

The Massachusetts legislature has passed a bill that allows undocumented persons to get a driver's license. The governor vetoed it, but it was overridden. The fear was the possibility that a license may allow them to vote illegally. The RMV these licenses would be coded differently.

Unfettered entrance is a problem because:

1) Terrorists can come in
2) Drug cartels can come in
3) Criminals can come in.

Hilarious slippery slope fallacy aside, do you think those demographics tend to pay attention to legal barriers in their way? Do you think all terrorists are necessarily foreign? Do you think the majority of criminals are illegal immigrants, I'd be stunned if that were true. Just as stunned as I'd be to imagine that drug cartels are allowed to cross the border "unfettered".

Did you pull the risible and trite propaganda directly from one of Trump's speeches?

No, I am just quoting the reality when there is an porous border:

Illegal Immigrants Arrested in FY 2020 Had Average of Four Criminal Convictions or Charges Each, ICE Says
Illegal Immigrants Arrested in FY 2020 Had Average of Four Criminal Convictions or Charges Each, ICE Says

Apparently, in 2021, there were at least 23 illegal border crossers whose identities flagged in the United States' Terrorist Screening Database that archives known or suspected terrorists according to a FOIA request filed by Fox News' Bill Melugin.

Here's How Many Illegal Immigrants Were Suspected Terrorists in 2021

And these are just those that were caught.

Are you suggesting that terrorists wouldn't take advantage of today's porous borders?

If you are not from the North East, US, you may not realize Martha's Vineyard is mostly about seasonal rental properties. It is a classic New England summer vacation destination. There are about 10,000 people who live on the Island, year round. During the summer this number increases to about 50,000, including all the seasonal renters; daily, weekly and monthly, and all the workers who supports the tourists. The summer season ends about Labor Day; early September when the children go back to school. If you do the math there were roughly 40,000 empty beds that were no longer needed for seasonal rentals when the immigrants arrived. It is a beautiful but expense summer vacation destination.

The summer homes of the Obamas' or Kennedy's, which are on the beautiful Vineyard, are only occupied seasonally and were more likely empty, besides the crews who clean up and lock it up for the winter. These first families had moved on to their other primary homes. Why not let the immigrants use those places until next spring, when the reason reopens. This would give everyone time to find more permanent places. But even beyond that, there were 40,000 empty bed , including the lower level accommodations for summer tourist workers. These was no room shortage at all the inns. The Left wing leaders and their propaganda machine, talk a good talk, but when it comes to doing, they are AOL, blaming someone else.

I am sure DeSantas knew the seasonal rental nature of Martha's Vineyard and specifically waited until after the rental season, to send the immigrants to this trotting ground for well off Leftist, with plenty of empty beds. There were no excuses in terms of room shortages, so he let the Democrats show their true colors as they tried to weasel out of having to give more than for the camera.

It look about 44 hours until the powers to be, got the Governor to move them off to a tent city the governor was building on a National Guard base on the Cape. Rather than the rich Democrats do the right thing, they will now try to create optics and blame the Republicans governors maybe even the one from Massachusetts who is trying to meets the needs of all. The Democrats leaders and the mainstream media are so good at lying, so you need people to set the record straight. But will the facts matter to the rank and file ?

Go to the internet and look up the chamber of commerce or Martha's Vineyard web site, and then look up summer rentals for next year to see what is now available. It may be already highly booked. There are also winter rentals in furnished houses and cottages.

When I was young, friends and myself would periodically take the ferry to the Vineyard, and do day trips on the Island. We would rent mini bikes and buzz about the island. It was really a nice place with plenty of beaches and raw natural settings; ponds and meadows, in the middle of the island, with scattered private enclaves for these who had the $$$. After a day of exploring we would go back to town and have a few pops, at the quaint local taverns, before the ferry ride back to our cars. DeSantas sent these immigrant to paradise, where they could have wintered over and then had summer jobs all lined up for spring 2023.
