Why are people fighting

mikkel_the_dane

My own religion
Why not accept that people have their own faith and leave it with that?
Debate often is more " I am right you are wrong"

Well, to be honest. Some people regardless of religious or not claim their world view to be universal for all humans. That is the fight.

In other words some worldviews are towards the personal as an individual(you are one of those) and then there are those worldviews, who claim authority over all humans including you.
For the latter, it is " I am right you are wrong".

And then there are those who say "we have to agree on some things, if we want to live in a society". And then the debate starts, what those things are, and what should be the common ground.
(Hint: a religion isn't a thing with need to agree upon, that religion shouldn't influence the common ground is.)

Well, to me, it depends on how I understand religion. And I am atypical in that I view most sufficiently cognitive persons to be religious, including some non-religious people for the standard version of religion.
In short science in general is about what works. Religion is about what matters. And yes, I am religious for what matters. I am just not a theist or a believer in a universal version of what matters.

Personally I experience that more toward me by atheists

Why are so many people fighting over religious beliefs

It's driving me nuts o_O
... And political beliefs, and economic beliefs, and cultural beliefs, ...

I suppose it's because we can't ever be wrong about anything. Modern consumer culture feeds and applauds the human ego rather than teaching us to reign it in, and so we have become a people ruled by our own egos.

Religions create war.

Crusades were Christians killing for Christ.

Many wars were created since, over religious issues.

Either the Muslims attacked (911 attack of the World Trade Center), or Christians attacked Babylon, Iraq, and Afghanistan (Remember, thou shalt not kill, turn the other cheek). "Fightin' Evil" ....."Fightin' the Axis of Evil".....Operation Infinite Justice (before Muslims objected to the name).

Down through the centuries, many were killed because of religion.

The KKK (Ku Klux Klan) proudly wear crosses, and chain Black men to crosses and light a bonfire under them (killing them).

The missions of California were built by slave Native Americans, some of whom were scared into not believing (fires of hell), or some were caught, chained, beaten, and some killed while building missions for Father (now Saint) Junipera Serra.

Little boys were castrated by the Catholic church to keep their "angelic" high-pitched singing voices (they were/are called castrati).

Salem witch trials were presided over by Christian ministers who needed "a fix" of sex so they were not so cranky, and there were plenty of accusations of witchcraft practiced by young women. Perhaps it was a land grab, since many of the accused came from wealthy families who had the first lands (prime lands) of the settlement.

The Inquisition (no need to say more).

and on an on.

I wasn't a know-it-all until I actually knew it all.

We don't need to debate the Religious Right, we merely have to be ruled by them. So take the abuse, just don't talk about it. And, certainly don't point out that they were wrong....such as making unnecessary wars when God said "thou shalt not kill" and Christians believe that they should "turn the other cheek."

No condoms (which prevent AIDS and unwanted kids)

Prayer (to my God, not yours) in public schools. I wonder what would happen if we insisted that everyone pray to Satan publicly?

No abortions (even if a collection of a few cells, and evil if raped or accidentally got pregnant).

Churches (only of my faith, not yours) paid to administer welfare. They decide who gets what, and they'd better believe as I do. Missions often give soup or a bowl of rice to those who pray to their God and use their bibles (they call converts rice Christians). The English forced the Irish to drop the Irish names if they want church food (drop the O from O'Sullivan to make the name Sullivan), and now they hear the name Sullivan, and say "you took the soup" (spelled and pronounced soap).

Supreme Court Justices, appointed for life (many of them in their 90's) to adhere to Christian principles. Presidents appointed them, and they are predominantly Republican. President George W. Bush had a contentious ballot count, settled by a 5 to 4 decision of SCOTUS.

All of those things you mention come from ego of power hungery people, not from religion

For some it's conditioning from childhood. For others it's survival. For still others it's ego. There are lots of reasons.

Why do two toddlers fight over a toy? (They lack understanding of sharing.) Religious fighters lack understanding of the bigger picture.

Would the two children fighting over a toy be driving you nuts?

Dear brother,

I am not talking all religions.

But when it comes down to Satan worshipers who worship him outright and the followers of the leader of the time who is God's Baha to the world and the light that encompasses everything in the universe and is everywhere with all things and God's seat on his creation, One is trying to extinguish God's light while the followers of the light are holding on to dear life and are oppressed by the deceivers (may God curse them, their followers, supporters, and those who don't oppose them but are content and apathetic to their actions).

Outside of that, the conflicts are really petty.
