Why are people fighting

Nothing my eye, Something for sure
Why are so many people fighting over religious beliefs

It's driving me nuts o_O

People want their own truth. No one likes to be all alone in the world. No one wants to live a truth that is contrary to their own.

There are about 3.2 billion Christians, 2.2 billion Islamists, and a growing secular atheist population of 1.1 billion people. The next highest count is Buddhism.

With so many different truths, where is any common ground? And who is going to win over humanity and the future of life on Earth?

Since survival is directly related to productivity and non religious people don't see any importance to religion in those terms; the view is that religion must be defeated and critical thinking, logic, and science are the only true way to make life worth living.

Anyways it's wise to propagate one's own truth for many reasons. But if some truths are only falsehood then there is no good to be spared of it.

I think most humans feel they know the very truth, and see dangers in people not subscribing to it.

All this leads to fighting. And truth is worth fighting for.

As for me virtues, values and protecting life on Earth are of the highest importance. I'm not interested in fighting truths that are harmless to others. I just don't want any laws, or people at my door telling me exactly how I must live my life. I don't want that for anyone.

So my answer is to find the virtues, and values that every good person can agree on. We must find reasonable expectations in each other regardless of our religion or lack thereof.

It is good you have the values in life you see as important to you personally:) and I think people would grow as beings if they accepted that other people experience and understand the truth differently than them selves.

Hey, @Conscious thoughts, this is actually easy to answer.

But before we try to answer, stop and ask yourself, "How important is my religion to me?" In other words, do you think that your beliefs are important, have a major impact on your life, provide guidance for how you should live, and even -- maybe -- how you think that other people should live (if you sincerely believe the tenets of your religion are true)?

And if, after honestly trying to answer all that for yourself, you conclude that your religious beliefs are tremendously important to you, that they even to some extent define your moral and social life....

Then, ask yourself why that should not be true of other people -- people who have just as sincere religious beliefs that are different from yours.

And if you can get through that, then ask yourself whether it should also be true of people who do not have any religious ("god") beliefs, but who also have strong views about what should be considered moral behaviour.

And when you've done that, I think you will know why people fight over these things.

My belief in sufism is as you say very important on a personal level. But I know and understand that my personal belief may not be important at all to others :)
My belief may not even be true in other peoples view.

To disagree is one thing, but fighting, no that makes no sense anymore.

People fight over things they are emotionally invested in. Religion is just one of those things. There is also, i.e. politics, medical isseus like vaccines, child rearing practices, how best to use money...

In my opinion, it is the personal ego as encouraged by the collective ego of certain religions that causes this conflict.

Certain religions make it a mandate to tell others that that specific religion is correct as their mission is to convert others, so they are rather militant with regards to the realm of ideas and beliefs.

Also, a lot of people do not understand that different religions and philosophical thought have radically different perspectives on religion and the nature of God, and this causes them to speak past each other. We should listen first, understand the opposing worldview, and then discuss.

This is a big problem with even the culture of the West vs the East, both of which are influenced by religion and philosophy, as they differ in views regarding what is a God, the nature of good and evil, rationalism, spirituality etc, and I know from my personal experience that I was judging the east with my western lense, making me judgemental.
