probably necessary in today’s world but if they didn’t have it I’m sure they get by with in the job training etc

Well U made the claim cops are dumb so…
When when someone is given a gun & a license to kill,
we should expect more from them than to just "get by".
And we certainly shouldn't exclude intelligent people.

Oh is that what your thread was about that we are excluding intelligent people. ? Yeah I disagree with that. If they hire all the top intelligent people would the statistics change of cops doing bad things though? I doubt it unfortunately
No one is advocating that only "top intelligent people" be hired.
This is about the wrongfulness of excluding them.
Moreover, there should be more requirements than just intelligence,
eg, emotional maturity, civility, legal knowledge, & far far more
extensive training necessary be of service to a diverse populace.

I see overweight cops all the time. I think that’s a poor choice for a cop. What if they need to chase a perpetrator? Yeah the system has a long way to go

Well both issues need to be on the same page for them to work
Maybe the should make them take an ethics test as well as an IQ test.
But then I suppose they would then say that people who to well on the test were too ethical to be a cop.
Threads cannot cover all possible aspects of a problem.
I addressed one, ie, that cops tend to be dumb for
systemic reasons, eg, the legal ability to eliminate
the intelligent ones. This thread is about that.
I suggest that if you want to cover other problems
with policing, there are more appropriate threads.
You could even start your own. It's easy.

Eh I think most cops hired today are intelligent enough. What you lookin for? A whole patrol of Einsteins?
