Why Are You Not an Atheist?

I am not going to debate you.

Also, I am not remotely as you are
imagining me.

If you've no interest in alien thinking,
that's fine. I will stop feeling bad for
you, and just wish you luck.

You can't run forever. The clock is ticking. One day, you're going to have to die.

...How can anyone embrace this?

Sorry, I'm just really sensitive to anti-Catholic rhetoric. I just want to make sure That's not what it was. You seeing my religion as Catholic and all.

Please tell me it wasn't that.

IF you are addressing me, I dont have a
anti -catholic bone in my (lovely :D )
body. Seriously. I am horrified by all the
supposed Christians who are such rabid
antis. Among my most respected
acquaintances, Catholics. The church,
no, no church is for me.

Rest easy, I am not against you
or anyone for being Catholic.

I asked you a question.
You are welcome to ask polite questions.

Making up nonsense about me, not so much.

Demanding a quick, or any response, not
so much.

I am working, at home this evening.
I sometimes like a quick break.

Also, about me, I am a little prickly,
that is just me.

Did your q get a answer?

Well, I appreciate that. And for the record, my oldest daughter is atheist, and I respect all people regardless of their beliefs or lack of.

...But I'm just trying to figure out what @Disciple of Jesus was talking about.

Have to admit, you are quicker than me.

The depth of your character comes out
in the first few words.

Well what "depth of character" comes out in you last three posts to me? Seriously.....

Do you even think about what you write before you press the "post reply" button?
What on earth do you think it added intelligently to the subject at hand?
This is a debate forum, not a sniping range. o_O

The question is, why. You brought this up. Why don't you tell me what "rhetoric', your accusing me of, and where it came from?

Theres a "question".

No, I asked you a question and I want a response. Your snarky attitude of answering questions with questions is getting old.

Besides, I already told you what I was hoping it wasn't. I don't need to repeat myself.

Oh, no @Audie. I wouldn't talk to you like that. I'm talking to @Disciple of Jesus.

Because it's inevitable? Because it one day will happen, that the life fades from our eyes and I am no more. Resistance truly is futile in this situation.

Its an arbitrary question, i wasnt talking to you, and youre insulting me.

What arent you getting about that?

Now, answer the question...

It's kind of an odd thing to say, don't you think? In a thread about why people are not atheists, and you respond by saying: "What do you think, im praying in front of a picture, or something? Yeah..."

...I don't get it.

But how does it feel to know that in about two generations after your death, you will be completely forgotten. All you've done, for absolutely nothing.
So? 99.999999% of everyone who has lived is so utterly forgotten they don't even have a grave marker. Since you brought it up, I suggest you do something that will allow your memory to linger on. I have a handful of such small things. Even once I'm dead, people still might see my pictures, read my stories, and so on.
...Your inevitable death is a serious issue. It's not going to be 'okay'.
How is it not ok? This is not understood to me.

I'm not trying to imply that there are no reason for being a theist.
And I think we've discussed often enough atheist's reason for being an atheist. However I'd be happy to explain for myself why.

I'm just curious what folks feel justifies their theism. What knowledge a person personally has to justify a belief in God.
1)My mystical and meditative experiences and the insights thereof.
2)The immense utility I have gained from them in terms of my quality of life.
3)The consonance of these experiences and corr. insights with Hindu and Buddhist thought penned down by their practitioners thousands of years before me.
4) The fact that my experiences preceded my reading of these works by over 10 years.
5) The fact that none of my current worldview contradicts anything discovered through science, but rather motivates my continuing scientific research, which to me, is a sacred calling. A sadhana.

But don't you think That's unfair? Assuming one wants to live that is. Human beings are likely the only creatures on earth who consciously acknowledge that they will die. Why did life advance to the point that we would have to suffer with this knowledge? I think That's horrible.

...It would be better if we were oblivious to it.
