Why Are You Not an Atheist?

Epic Beard Man

Bearded Philosopher
The consequence of the foundation of my theism is the result of a religious/spiritual upbringing. The sustaining of my theism is the consequence of my reasoning based on my life experiences.

Theism and atheism are just thoughts and belief systems in opposite.

What lies beyond them is the truth.

And what is a "belief system"?

If you had a belief that there was some force, like
gravity, say, that is always there, and could kill you
or gravely injure you at more or less any moment.

And that whether you are conscious of it or not,
affects everything you do, at all times.

Elabourate rituals and philosophical constructs
deal with this force; you even post about it. :D

Even though you've never actually been able
to detect the force, or say how it is affecting you.

THAT seems like a belief system.

There rest of us dont have a "belief system" that
systematically excludes this force, and around which
our lives revolve. Actually, we are blissfully free from
a related belief system.

I'm not trying to imply that there are no reason for being a theist.
And I think we've discussed often enough atheist's reason for being an atheist. However I'd be happy to explain for myself why.

I'm just curious what folks feel justifies their theism. What knowledge a person personally has to justify a belief in God.

It is simple. If sane people are willing to die to testify the existence of God, then we should believe.

To put it another way, if God truly exists what else can be done for such a truth to be conveyed among humans in the timeline of humanity, provided that God has a valid reason to hide behind?

The Christianity God has a strong reason to hide behind because humans need to be saved by faith. So if God has such a reason to hide behind, in your opinion what else should be done for His truth to convey?

A lot of people have more and less willingly
died for a lot of goofy beliefs.

IF (a) god truly exists, it would be keen if there
were a bit of data to work with. There is a more or
less infinite number of ways that a god could
at least allow us to detect it, if it is too stuck up
or shy to just say ""Hey hey, guys, look at this!"

As it is, all of the gods ever concocted have one
thing in common. Totally undetectable, and,
totally indistinguishable from the non existent,

One more thing on that. IF there is a "god"
that is like in charge of having made the universe
and all, and we do find out, what then?

Say wow? Spin prayer wheels? Build a pyramid
and cut people's hearts out? Build a cathedral?
Burn up a goat? Sing? Ask for favours?

Claim that it spoke to you and you are supposed
to speak for it?

Does it even matter if we do or dont know that
some intelligent force created the universe?

What is the point of coming to a topic to hate spam every post made by people you disagree with?

Your post likewise says a great deal about.

Of course, the person who said that thing about
"atheist faith", repeating moldy illogical cliche
that is a profound insult to atheists, that is ok?

Perhaps you should avoid anything labelled "debate"
if you just want a chorus of sycophants.

And-

Why do you feel it is suitable for you to post a falsehood?
"Hate spam" and all. :D

In my opinion, there are 3 reasons for one someone is a theist (these are not mutually exclusive one might be a theist for a combination of those 3 points

1 instinct, humans are naturally predispose to believe in some sort of God or Higher Power.

2 personal experiences: some people have experiences that they consider miraculous

3 evidence, there are some arguments for the existence of God.

Point one is a bit iffy, but, I can see why you say it.
Point two, for sure

Three, also iffy.

But for sure, those are reasons.

You had no objection to what BB said, but jump
on me. Tacit agreement =ok by you.

And I asked why you feel free to post such
a blatant falsehood. In some cultures, it is believed that
if you lie three times in a row, you lose your soul.

Watch yourself.

I'm a non-religious deist/theist. I don't comprehend "God", and I don't know that any of us are meant to. Something created the universe. Something created life. For that I'm thankful, but is "God" benevolent? Malevolent? Other?

Who truly knows?

I perceive an order in the chaos, and chaos in the order of things.

For me, It's not all about God. It's about love. My faith is based in my search for true love or what they call "agape".

I don't typically listen to this music, but I had this song stuck in my head, and I think It's about love. In a way, I imagine it twisted into discovering God's true love and justice. You know, a God that allows us to live forever.

Now a threat. You are a really sad person.

If you feel you have been "threatened" please
report it.

You are of course, refusing still to take
responsibility for your falsehood, and are
adding to it.

IF it is so that repeating falsehoods
endangers your soul, you had for sure best watch
out.

IF you are a "Christian" you probably get that
same "threat" every time you go to church.

You dont like being reminded of what the bible
says? :D

Here is a really nice song about your search.

What basis does one use to distinguish between
things generated inside oneself from something
related to an entity "out there"?
That question seems to about gods that are said to be "out there" and not those that are present everywhere or overlapping with us. I'm not sure if God is even an entity. I leave pondering that to other types of theists and atheists.

Everything we experience, sense and think can be argued to be "generated inside oneself" since our brains always participate in the process either real time or close to it. But what if it's not, how to tell the difference? Since we are "trapped", to an outsider, inside our brains anyway... we will always be seen to be talking about things from inside that trap. If someone messes with us using chemicals we can't smell or sense, do we know that we are not puking because we feel ill or have a migraine coming? I don't think we can, unless we have been exposed to that causative agent before and know by experience. Many people don't even realize allergies though they constantly get the results from eating stuff their body sees as enemies. We aren't in lab conditions, it's impossible to tell where it comes from.

You either missed or twisted the point.

No one dies for what claimed to be eye-witnessed. It's completely different from dying for belief. Belief is not witnessing.

1) You claim to have seen your friend Mary was on a bus to town. You thus are willing to die to testify that it's true.

2) You believe that Mary was on a bus, and you are willing to die for this belief.

The two are completely two irrelevant scenarios. Get a clue!

Why? The Bible means nothing to me. But your hate could every well effect theists around you including non Christians. I hope you don't discriminate at work.

It an obvious fact (and has been proven) that we are born with the predisposition to believe in some kind of God. I would add that atheist can’t provide an explanation for it.

People have had experiences that they “felt” them as real religious experiences

And there are at least some arguments for the existence of God, that have convinced some people (sure there are also arguments for atheism)
