Why choose that avatar?

I don't proclaim to know what Vaishnava is but looking at the avatar, I get a sense of love and protection.

Oh, sorry.

Vaishnavas are followers of Vishnu or Krishna (one and the same). Maa Lakshmi and Srimati Radha (one and the same) are their respective consorts and female energies. Yes, there is much love and devotion between Them, and love, devotion and protection between Them and Their devotees.

Yeah, that's peaceful. And I like how Krishna has his legs crossed, like he's just hanging out, like he's just one of the guys. That's awesome.

He is almost always depicted that way. He's in a relaxed pose when He's playing His flute. The music of the flute draws people to Him. It's part of de rigeur Hindu iconography. Hindu icons must follow certain rules and guidelines in depicting the deities. Yes, He is "one of the guys".

His life and exploits can be found in Canto X of the Srimad Bhagavatam. Without getting too heavy, He was a rascal, a mischief-maker, a prankster and practical joker and a butter thief. Not to mention being to His friends what Peter Pan was to the Lost Boys... their leader in all kinds of mischief and adventures.

He drove His (adoptive) mother Yashoda to distraction with His antics. One day when He was a toddler she had to tie a rope around His tummy and anchor the ends to two trees (the Bronze Age equivalent of a playpen :D). But that didn't stop Him... He started to run and just pulled the trees down.

Another time He ate a handful of dirt. Mother Yashoda made Him open His mouth to spit it out. When He opened wide, He showed Her the entire universe contained within Himself. She near fainted, and fell down to worship Her divine son (but that didn't stop future punishments for naughtiness).

I can just see poor Mother Yashoda, exhausted, hair disheveled from chasing Him around and saying "just wait until Your father gets home!" :D But all this makes Him all the more lovable. Even as an adult He had a mischievous streak.

I have a bunch of Tigger pics on my computer and I change them ever so often. At first, I used a cross as an avatar. As soon as I switched over to a Tigger pic (the first I used was from The Tigger Movie, which I had seen with my nieces and son when they were little) that I was using at another forum, people started treated me differently. I am not sure why- I was the same with the cross as I was with the Tigger pic. ;) But I love Tigger, I have loved him since I was a very little child.

Crosses are solemn & religious.
Tigger is happy & fun.
Good choice.

I started using this one years ago at a political forum. I usually advocated the libertarian position, and Lady Liberty seemed like a good avatar. This particular picture is a print from the turn of the last century, and had a poem printed behind the statue. A fellow poster modified it for me, and I've been using it on every forum I post on since.

Mine is a Sami shaman holding a drum and a beater. I'm very interested in the psychology and history of shamanism, particularly Scandinavian (I lived in Finland for a few years). To make the avatar, I drew it out then photographed it against the head of a frame drum I have.
I got my avatar done as a tattoo last year.

I'm into beer and homebrewing, so on another forum, I went by the name "lambicus" and my avatar was a microscope image of a Brettanomyces lambicus - the yeast in some Belgian beers.

Then, on that forum, we decided that our avatars would dress up for Hallowe'en. I decided to dress up my yeast cell as something like cryptosporidium or giardia, and some Googling led me to the Onion, where I found Crypty. I ended up liking Crypty so much that I used him as my avatar when I came here.

I must admit, I often wondered what your avatar Crypty had to do with penguins, lol now I know... nothing. Nice though, you should join Crypty with Treys to get a comic going. I miss the comics that Cardero used to do.

My avatar IS better than yours. :D

I'm too shy to put a pic of myself here, so I guess something witty will do the job.

So your avatar keeps telling me :p

I never thought about using my own pic on a forum before, but I see many here do and "good on em" I say.

I kind of miss the old 'show and tell' days from school. So occasionally I use avatars of some of my toys. Sometimes I will throw up meaningless random avatars. Usually, I stick to things like guns, the cross bow, one of my vehicles. I even used a picture of my old sump pump a few times over at myspace. ( FFS I'm a redneck for real ):p

I tried to respond as a redneck (I'm from the country, but in wrong country :p) so my redneck typing came across piratey - if that's even a word, lol

I guess if I had to do that, mine would be skateboards, teddies and ataari games, not quite the same.

Being that I'm very interested in physics and mathematics, I find a lot of the artworks revolving around them fascinating, in particular ones that are thought-provoking and/or mind-bending, so I have this one about the Relativity staircase as my avatar. :D

My husband has your avatar as his desktop picture at the moment, last week he had an image of "eternal hell" for some reason, looked to me like a city on fire. He is strange that way, but lets not tell him I said so :p

I wanted an avatar which would express peace, wisdom, intelligence, knowledge & success.......& groundskeeping.

How can I not love your avatar, he shares my roots and .............. I do gardening from time to time, such as pull out a stray weed, does that count??

I think it may be that when people see the cross it may come across as you only want to talk about religion but the Tigger shows you also have a fun side too. It's strange how so many pre-conceptions can come from an avatar alone. But love Tigger, why not snoopy? :p

Who ever did this for you is very good at what they do, looks very professional. What was the poem if you don't mind sharing?

Funny you said that, before I read your post I was thinking that it would make an excellent tattoo!
