Why do some Atheists say Christianity is harmful?

Obviously, catholicism is the true form of christianity, which makes the most logical sense, its the OG christianity, thats why, the original.

I understand that the Vulgate was originally written some 80 odd years after the first bible was published, there are now several different versions of it.
There are no copies if the original christian bie so it is impossible to tell if Christianity is the "true form" of Christianity.

How do you know that Catholicism is any more legitimate, true or OG than Orthodox Christianity, or any of the so-called heresies declared as such by the Nicean Council, or Judaism or Gnostic Christianity?

From the Orthodox perspective they are as OG as Catholicism once was, and it was Rome that went astray. From the heretic view, it was Nicea that exerted undue political pressure. From the Judaic, Christianity itself is a mistake. From the Gnostic, Pauline Christianity is just misguided.

To even decide that there ever was or still is a true, "OG" form of Christianity, you have to first make several arbitrary decisions. You have to decide that Christianity should not have remained a part of Judaism; that either Paul or the early Gnostics must have been correct; and whether, why and which among the several Pauline Christianity Churches that exist today is somehow deserving of being called "OG" despite Paul himself pretty much saying that his view was an innovation.

Being an atheist is miserable because you have no meaning in life

Who's been telling you such lies? My life is full of meaning but that meaning is not entrenched in much edited 1700 year old book *Mod edit*

But lets assume for one second atheism is true. Life has no meaning.

No need to assume, *Mod edit* and as mentioned, my life is full of meaning, not faith and hope but real life meaning

So i guess we can all agree gay marriage etc. is unecessary? You dont need a partner, its simple if youre not gonna procreate anyway.
If you think forming loving relationships is only about procreation, then I feel even sadder for you than I did for your first response to me in Post #174.

I know we don't agree on this, but I am utterly certain that this is the only life I will get, and I intend to make as much of it as I can. And if you think there's a heaven, and you get an afterlife, you might remember this: it'll still be you. As I said to you before, the terrible harm that Christian belief has done to so many people IN THIS LIFE is, for me, the top of my list when answering this thread's question -- why do I think Christianity is harmful. I think so because I've seen too much of that harm. Christians have seen it too, but can't bring themselves to stop doing it.

Obviously not all Atheists claim this, most atheists dont really care about ones faith. However there are some atheists who claim Christianity is harmful as a religion. They tend to be more on the antitheist side.

My question is why? And how? How is christianity in any way form or shape harmful? Some say its because of the strict rules, but how is that bad? How are rules who lead to a better society bad?

And how is sexual purity exactly a bad thing? I dont see how Christianity can be harmful at all. So why do they claim it?
Its clear that you've matters of
your own that could be far better dealt
with than by attacking people, institutions,
and understandings you know nothing about.

My biggest regret is still losing my virginity to another man. A very shameful and disgusting act in the eyes of God indeed.

Everyday i regret ever acting on my homosexuality in my past. And everyday i hope God can forgive me for those grave sins. He probably will, but only if i completely overcome it for all my life and life totally celibate now.

I wish i could regain my virginity.
Science has demonstrated that homosexuality is not common, but entirely natural. It occurs in many, many species. Almost 10% of male sheep express only homosexual interests. In fact, apparent homosexual individuals are known from all of the traditional domestic species, from sheep, cattle and horses to cats, dogs and budgerigars. If God is the author of all of nature, then I put it to you that nature itself is witness that it is NOT a "very shameful and disgusting act in the eyes of God."

Here is a brief list of some of the other species in which homosexual behaviour is observed:

Birds
Black swans
Albatrosses
Blue ducks
Ibises
Mallards
Penguins
Vultures
Pigeons

Mammals
Amazon dolphins
American bisons
Bats (more than 20 varieties!)
Bottlenose dolphins
Elephants
Giraffes
Marmots
Lions
Polecats
Primates
Bonobos
Chimpanzees
Gibbons
Gorillas
Orangutans
Monkeys
Japanese macaques
Sheep
Spotted hyenas

Reptiles
Lizards
Tortoises

Insects and arachnids
Dragonflies
Fruit flies
Bed bugs

I suspect there are a great many people of all kinds that feel much the same way about their first sexual encounters. For any number of reasons. If humans were perfect what would they need God for?

What does god- belief do but make
people feel guilty and afraid of being
tortured forever for the "sin" of being what
they are?
It provides a common set of morals, that other followers can express without worrying about being taken advantage of.

For instance, I can be humble, thoughtful and kind to others who share my values, without worrying about them trying to one-up me or push me aside as being "weak". They won't do that to me, whereas someone who views aggression and 'force' as a positive trait would walk all over me - forcing me to either abandon what I believe is good, or force me to be miserable be getting walked on.

Also, my atheist peers have no qualms with stealing small trinkets or things from other people if they think it is of little value. I don't have to worry about that so much around faithful Christians - because of the shared morals.
