Why Dont Christians Accept the Book of Mormon as Valid?

Not your average Mormon
What religion will the kids be raised as?
My son has agreed to raise their children as Catholic. I believe that is a requirement for the marriage to be performed in the Catholic Church. Obviously, I would prefer that she were LDS, but she's not, and other than that, she is everything I could possibly want in a daughter-in-law. Anyway, he hasn't been a practicing Mormon for over ten years. He has no interest in Catholicism either, though, but since he is not strong in the faith in which he was raised, agreeing to have the kids raised Catholic is no big deal to him.

I know many LDS's that are genuinely good people. The religion is an excellent one to live by. I just wouldn't DIE by the religions core beliefs... I read the book of Mormon, and it is fairly entertaining. A good read. However, when the "original" copies of the golden plates were 'lost' it shows me that there is something amiss in its authenticity. The holy scripture of orthodox Christianity is found and dated sometimes 2000 yrs. This is why I do not accept the Mormon scripture as a testiment to Christianity, humanity or legitimacy...

Do you believe that the Roman Catholic Faith and official doctrines are in par with the official doctrines of the LDS Church? It seems to me that there are mutually exclusive claims made by both churches that don't make the two faiths compatible. I asked this question since you are Catholic.

Please post anything that I wrote to validate your statement that I have bashed Mormon Christians. It seems some of you continue to attack my character without valid reasoning. Just please quote my in context and contents to support such apparent attack on my character. You wrote that I am a Mormon basher. Katz posted that I have bashed the Catholic Faith. Okay, that type of attack needs to be supported by what I wrote, otherwise you are both guilty of slander, which is clearly a sin against God. This should be an esasy thing to document because everything that I stated is posted somewhere.

It is self-evident, especially by your behavior in the other thread.

It is self-evident, especially by your behavior in the other thread.

What is self-evident to you is only a subjective opinion. If you cannot actually copy postings that verify that I bash Mormon Christians, don't you think you are slandering; therefore you are sinning against God?

The one who conceals hatred has lying lips, and whoever utters slander is a fool. - Proverbs 10:18

What Defiles a Person

And he called the people to him again and said to them, “Hear me, all of you, and understand: There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him.” And when he had entered the house and left the people, his disciples asked him about the parable. And he said to them, “Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, since it enters not his heart but his stomach, and is expelled?” (Thus he declared all foods clean.) And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” - Jesus Christ

Why do you have to wait for salvation if Watchmen already has it?
Watchmen and I agree, I'm sure. He just worded his answer differently than I did. We LDS understand the concept of salvation from a number of different perspectives. He focused on one and I focused on another. And you focused on trying to make one of the other of us look either dishonest or incompetent.

I wasn't trying to make you look like anything. I believe I asked a legitimate question.

The Truth:

1. You asked me to create another thread. I complied.

2. You refuse to answer the challenge posed by the OP and instead criticize Mormonism.

3. You edit your posts way after the fact to make it look like you were playing fair. I'd call that dishonest.

4. After repeated invitations to participate in the OP and explanations of what is required, you play dumb.

Truth is a defense to slander.

Watchmen,

I think you are imagining much what you posted. There is no conspiracy against you or Katz. My edits are how I write, since my thoughts are my thoughts. They have nothing to do with you, or covering anything up. You can take my word for it as a Christian, or you can continue to slander me by calling me a liar. All that you write are speculative unsupported claims. I sure wish you would stick to the actual postings. Communicating through Forum sites are very difficult, but I don't think you should try to read anything beyond what is written. I don't think any of us have the ability to read each other's hearts and motives.

1 Samuel 16:7B

For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

I've known too many so-called "Christians." You're not in good company. And thus, I don't believe you. I think you use the edit feature to cover things up. In fact, when I first called you on it, you played dumb saying, "what the heck are you talking about." Then I explained how I can catch you editing your posts way after the fact by looking at the posting times and edit times.

You have zero credibility. And your most recent attempt in the other thread is another lame attempt. It doesn't demonstrate a difference using the Bible and BoM. You quote Bible scripture, but never use the Book of Mormon to show how they may be different (and they're not, by the way).

An interesting parallel exists between Exodus chapter 15 and what I consider the last book GOD revealed. See Revelations chapter 15. The song of Moses. The first song recorded in the Old Testament becomes the victory song for those victorious over the beast and his image and the last song revealed sung. Is this coincidence? NOTHING is coincidence. The REVELATION of CHRIST in HIS fulness is the LAST revelation from GOD. The book of mormon is but a usurper.

Funny, though, that Revelation may not have been the last canon book to be written. There's an outside chance that Luke/Acts may be newer than Revelation.

FYI, Revelations was most likely not written after all the other biblical texts. It is believed that a couple others came after it. Just because it comes last in the Bible does not mean it was written last.

What sojourner said too, we posted at the same time...

Oddly, at one time it was thought that Revelations was written by some monk, centuries after the rest of the New Testament. Luke is about 60 to 67 AD and Acts is considered about the same. I hold Revelations to about 96 AD.

If you think Revelation was last then you are in the minority. Most scholars recognize that Revelation was not the last book written.

Most scholars don't believe Mary needed to be a virgin, that the FLOOD happened, or that GOD created the entire Universe in 6 days (resting on the seventh) ----- so go figure. I am concerned what most scholars recognize --- for their sake not mine. Most scholars don't even believe the red sea parted. I'm not influenced by what most think.

Well, we're not talking about miracles, we're talking about chronology.

Even if Revelations was the last book writen by John in 96 AD. The first writings in the Book of Mormon started in about 600BC. Thats 696 Years before Revelation, well within the acceptable timeframe of Biblacal content.
