World Cup 2014

To be really honest with you, Costa Risca should be a breeze. And Argentina not too difficult. It would really really surprise me if the Netherlands didn't make it to the finals.

And what did I say? Terrible game. Yeah, they had majority possession - in their own half, which is of no use at all. I see Robben, just like 4 years ago, is still trying to score all the goals himself. You'd have thought he'd have learnt by now. Netherlands had so many chances to score that they simply didn't capitalise on when they should have. And now? Down to penalties...

This is the bad part about soccer. If both teams want to play defensively, the game tends to be draw. Netherlands plays defensively trying to score goals during counterattacks. While Costa Rica just played extremely defensively to don't let those counterattacks happen.

That's not the kind of soccer we like to watch.

I reckon we've got a Germany vs Argentina final incoming

Anything can happen on Germany vs. Brazil. And I still think Netherlands is better off than Argentina. Although a Brazil vs. Argentina final would be really nice.

To those unaware: Argentina is Brazil's rival by tradition. More than any other team.

There's a strong rivalry between Netherlands and Germany too. We haven't forgotten the Germans defeating the Dutch in the '74 final. Could we see a repeat in this final? It's not impossible...

I wouldn't necessarily say the Netherlands played defensively, as much as playing too safely. They only had 2 defenders in the final 15 mins or so.

When Costa Rica had the ball, they often controlled it well with quick passes between their midfielders, while the players with the most possession in the whole game seemed to be the Dutch defenders, passing between themselves.

And far to many offsides for any one game. Again and again a well placed ball was defeated by the touch-judge's raised flag...

Not the line-judge's fault. The runners needed to time their run better.

I wasn't blaming the touch judge. The balls were very well placed, but very poorly timed along with those meant to be receiving said balls. Very very frustrating to see them fail at something that is not so difficult to get that wrong so many times.

I'd say the ref crew they had today was very good indeed

Brazil are going to be missing Neymar and Thiago Silva. Plus the Germans are looking a lot better than they were early in the tournament so I think it will be tough for Brazil to win that one.

I reckon Argentina are the better team, going forward at least. It will all depend on if the Netherlands can hit them on the break.

In my opinion, Thiago Silva will be much more needed on a match against Netherlands or Argentina. Why? Currently, germans rely a lot more on group play than individual talent to score goals. You need great players to go one-on-one against the likes of Robben and Messi. The same can't be said about Muller from what I have seen so far. But perhaps he was just out of luck...

Neymar will be missed though. He is the one player that can break through positions, which would be very useful against Germany. Plus, he is very quick which also works great against Germany.

Argentina and Netherlands rely on a few select players to win their games. The difference is that these players have different characteristics, and that Argentina plays fairly more offensively.

I hope the better team wins.

There's nothing more disappointing than to see the better team lose because of a fluke, unless, that is, . . . . . the winning team is the one I'm rooting for. ;)
