Would you sue a transgender person for using the bathroom?

I would have said, use the same mens/womens bathroom you typically use in public. (Being afraid is not an excuse without incident)
It is when people are harassed, threatened, and attacked over it (I'm not sure if anyone still gets arrested for it).

True, I get that. But she said she relies on the Bus and has to use public restrooms. If there was a 'threat' in either of the bathrooms, that should be reported. To say you're afraid to go into a bathroom isn't an excuse without a threat. Put on a hoodie and wear a hat and sunglasses until it's resolved.

This transgendered person is just trying to take advantage of the political landscape. And doing it with a deceitful intent. (claims to be disabled). I'd ignore this.

My understanding of the family restroom is, anyone may use it, but someone with small children gets priority. In the absence of a queue, I'd say this is the library bathroom gatekeeper being a jerk.

I'm still surprised that bathroom access is the hill that people are willing to die on. Straight people should probably stop worrying that every transsexual wanting to use the bathroom are child molesters and transsexuals should maybe look for great acceptance and integration outside of toilet access.

Pbbbttttt! It's guys like you....apologists for the dysfunctional
status quo....who inspired me to vote for a bozo like Trump.
The corrupt machine needs a wrench thrown into its works.
Perhaps rebuilding a broken system will be better.
Or perhaps things will get worse....but at least it would feel like revenge.

You still feel that way? *shakes head

Of course things will get worse. And I suspect the rebuild will not be to your liking, knowing what I know of you. It will be hard backlash against conservatism. We are already seeing it among the young people.

You wouldn't be able to tell by looking at pictures of me.
Well, what is the disability? From the pictures, doesn't look like anything related to mobility.

A family bathroom isn't just for disabled people, and normally, non-disabled people are allowed to use handicapped stalls as long as there are no disabled people that currently need it.

Virgina Republican Bob Marshall has proposed a new bill HB 1612 that is much like the N.Carolina bill HB 2. The proposed Virginian bill would make it illegal for any person to use a bathroom that does not correlate to the gender listed on their birth certificate. But the bill also specifically allows you to sue any individual who does so.

I find this typical of Republicans, delicate little flower who want to sue over the potential of having their delicate little feelings hurt by the mere encounter with anyone that is in anyway different. I find it difficult to express just how disgusting I think this is.

As long as they don't make a move in the general direction of my junk or pull out a camera, I frankly don't care. Heck, I wouldn't even mind if a cis woman walked into the men's room nonchalantly to use a stall. If nobody makes a big deal out of it, then it isn't one.

Nutjob Republicans like this are in the death throes of endlessly shouting "BUT MUH FAMLY VALYOOZ."

I always hated this type of view the most; it is nothing but poison. People have a harder time seeing the damage it does then obvious prejudice. When I was growing up, it was, "I don't care what they do behind closed doors as long as I don't see." As if somehow expressions of gay love were to be practiced in the shadows because it is not fit for the public view. It is a horrible point of view that just perpetuates the image that one lifestyle is superior to another.

They are not sub humans that should wear a disguise just to get equal and fair treatment. It is a bathroom; they are not asking for much.

Personally, I hope this true, and I hope every trans-person tries to "take advantage of the political landscape" until equality is met.

This whole bathroom thing is just a way to attack transgender people, pure and simple. I don't know why this is such a big deal, but there is no appear concern about a gay man standing next to a straight man pissing at the urinal. Or even gay men sharing locker-rooms and taking showers with straight men.

You responded to that much friendly than could've, lol. I don't remember exactly how long ago, but I know wasn't that long ago people were trying to prevent women who didn't look "feminine enough" from going into the bathroom.
But, really I'm kind of glad all this bathroom stuff is coming up because you wouldn't believe how big and problematic of an issue it can be. No one wants to spend this much time thinking about using the bath room or concerned about where they can go. But because of social conservative asswipes and people telling us to "cover up," we have to. Here in America, the damned bathroom is more sacred than a sanctuary.

I say this is entirely fair. No use in creating confusion about gender when it is biologically simplistic. My only concern is that it should be in the power of the owner to sue not any random individual.

Also I caught you on a lie:
The principal of a public school attended by a child shall notify the child's parent, guardian, legal custodian, or other person having control or charge of a child within 24 hours of any request by a child to be recognized or treated as the opposite sex, to use a name or pronouns inconsistent with the child's sex, or to use a restroom or changing facility designated for the opposite sex.

This seems fairly typical of people now a days.
