    Islam, the unexploded bomb

Interesting. Thank you. However, this sounds like something that can be stretched to suit. What is an attack? Is not being Muslim an excuse for genocide? The Yazidis found it so. Is being the wrong kind if Muslim an attack? The endless sectarian warfare that Muslims love so much indiçates that...

    Islam, the unexploded bomb

Sure, but they are all using the same "holy book". While it may be benign for some, others can use it to justify atrocities. Therein lies the danger. It takes just one deranged imam to send thousands raging into the streets rioting and killing. By the way, I'm not an admirer of " holy books"...

    Islam, the unexploded bomb

Why not? Their "lived experience" gives them insight.

    Islam, the unexploded bomb

Please direct me to some of these. I would like to have a look at them. The anti-non-muslim stuff seems pretty common in the Quran.

    Islam, the unexploded bomb

Imagine that there is an unexploded bomb or mine or some such buried in your back yard. You know you must walk carefully to avoid triggering an explosion, that the bomb might go off by itself, or that the brat next door might chuck a stone over the fence, blowing up your yard. Most Muslims are...

The Creationist's Argument and its Greatest Weakness

Perhaps there is another natural explanation that has been overlooked so far. One is not justified in invoking gods without specific evidence for supernatural causes.

    Does Christianity nurture Imposter Syndrome?

Thanks for this. Very interesting. I guess it helps keep the pews and collection plates full.

The Creationist's Argument and its Greatest Weakness

"Ghosties and ghoulies and things that go bump in the night" ie made-up superstitions.

The Creationist's Argument and its Greatest Weakness

Not bad advice, especially if one omits the oogity-boogity stuff. However, one nice passage does not excuse the many horrors that permeate the same book.

The Creationist's Argument and its Greatest Weakness

Ah, but "holy books" encourage those crimes, by exhortation and by example. The bible and qoran are notorious offenders in that regard.

Are pigs really "dirty" to eat?

I note that these regulations come from desert peoples who lacked cooking fuel. One doesn't find them among forest dwellers. Just as with stir frying.

The Creationist's Argument and its Greatest Weakness

Proving a universal negative isn't necessary when the positive claims aren't substantiated. It's not a scam to oppose frauds whose claims are unsupported. Especially when those frauds cause egregious harms. Ever heard of snake oil?

Why do atheists talk to believers so much?

You seem to be ignoring the notion of a process taking place in a physical substrate. If a computer is running a calculation, is the calculation a "thing" , as you claim for consciousness?

The Creationist's Argument and its Greatest Weakness

Of course organized religions are scams. They peddle stuff they cannot demonstrate that they can provide (eg afterlives). Opposing them is indeed public service. Run oif the mill believers are just victims. Their only fault is gullibility.

The Creationist's Argument and its Greatest Weakness

They could be doing public service in opposing noxious scams.

Many Religions Make for a Better World than One (or None)

Not at all. Being unwilling to succumb to scams doesn't require organization.

The most important question of all

A word salad is a meaningless combination of words. Eg "square circle".

Why do atheists talk to believers so much?

Sounds like a very ingenious scam to me. One is expected to believe something you can't even describe.

"Draw Muhammad day" should be a public holiday

Well, I did read the thread. Your response to my post makes no sense. **mod edit**

"Draw Muhammad day" should be a public holiday

The superstitious taboos of Muslims do not apply to non-muslims. Period. The Quran is merely paper to non-muslims. You cannot use it as an argument with non-muslims. **mod edit**
