Matthew 16:6, and some claim that Jesus /was, a Pharisee?

Really. Am I missing something? I'm no Biblical scholar but I know a bit about the historical Jesus theories out there. Him being a Pharisee is a new one on me.

Matthew 16:6, and some claim that Jesus /was, a Pharisee?

I've never heard of anyone claiming Jesus was a Pharisee, and I would doubt it based on the gospels. It's possible he was an Essene.

Responding to US withdrawal from climate change accord

I have a feeling a lot of people will be fleeing the country before this is all over with.

Responding to US withdrawal from climate change accord

I knew you weren't talking about killing him. I was just saying that I don't want him dead, just out of office.

Responding to US withdrawal from climate change accord

I'd be happy with impeachment. Or resignation. Death would be a bit much.

Responding to US withdrawal from climate change accord

Everything Trump does makes me shake my head. I mean everything. I cannot name one thing that Trump has done that makes me feel even a tiny bit optimistic about my country's near future. I have been trying SO hard to find some glimmer of hope with Trump, some reason to believe that he's going to...

Poll shows Biblical literalism in continued decline in US

I agree it's a major transformation, but not as to why it's happening. For decades now Americans have been continuously exposed to secular ways of viewing the world, sometimes outright anti-religious ideas via the mass media. That is going to have an effect on peoples' thinking over time...

    What is Hell?

Agreed, it is not. But many people believed it anyway, and it was taught by the church.

    What is Hell?

In Medieval Christianity, the point of Hell was "sadistic gratification" - one of the "perks" of being in Heaven was looking down at all the people being tortured in Hell. It was supposed to be entertainment, I guess. I understand that this idea survives in Islam.

I am Curious About Other Faiths...

I think you should figure out what your beliefs are and then find a belief system that best matches it. The three religions you listed don't have a lot in common. What attracts you to them?

Do the Vedas Predict a War?

How do you conquer and occupy a billion people? Even if the Chinese were to destroy the Indian military, I don't think they would be to control the people.

Where did Cain obtain his food and wife?

Once while I was reading Genesis, it struck me that the first six chapters seem to be a collection of different myths and legends. I think the original stories weren't necessarily connected to each other - Cain and Abel weren't originally the sons of Adam and Eve and lived in a world full of...

    Is Judas Iscariot in heaven?

I'm even sure if I believe in an afterlife, so I can't answer the question, but it raise an interesting point. Christians believe their souls are saved because Jesus was betrayed by Judas, was crucified and rose from the dead, resulting in the forgiveness of their sins. If Judas is in...
