Opinion | I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration

I know this was mentioned in another thread, but I felt this was significant enough to get a separate thread.

Who do you think this anonymous person is? Do you think we will find out? And when?

Given how disappointingly allienated the writer shows himself to be, I would guess Pence. But we may well never knoiw, particularly if it is Pence. He has little to gain by allowing himself to become a target.

I know certain people are going to try to normalize this. But this is not normal. We did not see anyone in the Obama administration trying to thwart his agenda, or talk about the 25th amendment. Nor did we see this in the Bush or Clinton administrations. I do not think this has ever happened before.

This will have historical ramifications.

You know, I get the sense that the writer is doing his best to avoid ramifications and to normalize the situation.

Who do you think this anonymous person is?

Nobody important outside their head.

Do you think we will find out?

Perhaps from an investigation started by the WH or law enforcement. I doubt the person in question is going to come forward as being anonymous provides protection, avoids one proving any evidence they are doing anything but boasting and evaluation of any acts.

And when?

As per the above when the WH deems it necessary to clean house.

I know certain people are going to try to normalize this. But this is not normal. We did not see anyone in the Obama administration trying to thwart his agenda, or talk about the 25th amendment. Politics has hit a high mark for hysterical acts and stunts.

This will have historical ramifications.

Yup. Although I think it will damage not only Trump's administration but future ones as various parties become paranoid over staff with political axes to grind hiding in their midst. It will further the partisan divide

I'm sure some hopeful anti-Trumpeteers are creaming their pants over this but with mid-terms right around the corner and the "anonymous source" and "anonymous author" I find it dubious at best, I'm just waiting for the the much less publicized retraction and apology at a later date. Nice touch attempting to tap into the seeming need of some lefties to appear to be an oppressed fighter for goodness and light, this isn't Star Wars.

Anonymous sources and authors have become routine for media to claim their opinions as something other than opinions.

We already have a system in place to deal with that, we did away with kings years ago.
Are you suggesting assasination by poison or by stabbing?
We have heard it all before, remember Fire&Fury? Seemed like a political potboiler and nightstand stroke book for some opposed to Trump.
So? One book is overblown, therefore - what?

I don't think that the NYT would take a risk by making a fabricated story without substance or take it from someone who's not heavily involved in the administration one way or the other. If they are going to be this controversial, their very reputation as a paper is on the line.
Of course they wouldn't. The whole idea is quite ridiculous. Furthermore the content of the article is perfectly in line with what we have learned about this administration from other sources, and from what everyone with brains can see about Trump's personality and behaviour from his own Twitter posts.

I'm just waiting for some halfwit to claim these are fake news as well .

The NYT has unintentionally published stories fabricated by staff, eg, Jayson Blair.
Not saying it happened this time. But it's possible.
Such has bitten the Washington Post, USA Today, etc.

Yes, we have heard it all before. How many times do you have to hear (and observe) the same things over and over again before you notice a pattern and realize there's probably some truth to it?
I mean, come on.

There were two big stories this week. Excerpts from Woodward's book followed by the "Resistance" Op-Ed.

The information in Woodward's book is far more damning than the Op-Ed. Woodward is a respected author. Woodward relied on multiple sources. The author or the Op-Ed is one "deranged" "treasonous" "rat".

As soon as the media was out in force quoting from Woodward's book, Trump and his true loyalists cooked up the Resistance plot. They drafted the Op-Ed and had a "respected" official deliver it to the NYT.

Trump wins by deflecting attention away from Woodward's book and by giving him talking points for his base.
