A Universe from Nothing?

Thief

Rogue Theologian
Three questions:
First: Where was the nothingness ?
Second: Where was 'God' ?
Third: When did 'Genesis' start ?
Maybe a fourth:
What created the 'singularity' ?
~
Oh another.....from where'd the water come ?
~
I see no reason to include religion in this !
~
'mud
agreed.....religion is not required

In the beginning, there was nothing, then nothing exploded, and became something, and then expanded rapidly in all directions. Trillions of years later, there are conscious beings communicating on computers using an internet, then trillions of years later, everything collapses down into nothing again.

Or-- In the beginning God said, let there be light.

Now it is so obvious to me the second choice makes more sense.

But the physicist Stephen Hawking has created a theory that the universe had no beginning, but that there always was something. I haven't studied it, but I would think his new theory would be worth studying.

the hall of mirrors line of thought is used by nonbelievers.....to avoid the Void

From my perspective it goes like this... In the beginning a god existed. Don't ask how or why, we haven't got a clue. This god made a singularity. It's an extremely compressed version of the universe. Then he expanded this singularity like a balloon expands when it's blown up. Then... We don't know what he did next. But billions of years later he started making all kinds of living organisms on one planet in this universe he created. Among these creatures were dinosaurs, who lived on the planet for 175 million years. Why he made them? Don't know. Then after that he suddenly decided to make humans in his image so that he could be loved. Luke 10:27. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind". And to be loved forever he made sure those who loved him got an eternal life with him and the rest were discarded.

we are similar in several perspectives.

but I prefer to speak of certainty.....in spite of a plea for proof from nonbelievers.

as for the creations of centuries past....I have speculation
not a mystery if you can rationalize.

early creations were prelude to greater things.
prelude to items of interest and possibilities.

A very small correction. Nothing did not explode. The explosion (Inflation) came at 1 x 10 raised to power -32 seconds. Not trillions but 13.78 billion years later. As for future, we do not exactly know. Many scenarios.

I think you should stick with the bible and Sunday school, because it is clear that you are incapable of or against learning science.

As Aupmanyav pointed out there are errors in your first paragraph. And I think with the whole "trillion years" business, if you are not being ignorant, then you are just being sarcastic or patronising.

So I don't think there is any point in explaining to you where you are mistaken, since you clearly have no interested in correcting your mistakes or learning science.

shall we go back to topic....a universe from nothing
apparently it can happen
what caused it?

We have no idea, or even if "cause" was applicable prior to the big bang. Let's just admit we don't know, why make up silly Sunday School stories like "God did it"?

The universe wasn't from nothing, ex nihilo. It was ex Deo, from God. Not the same.

In Genesis there were ten statements where 'and God said' The universe came from the word of God, hence Ex Deo

So.you and Thief are on finally on the same page here in your belief that something can come from nothing.....and the pair of you are in error for obvious reasons....nothing does not and can not exist...ever...

Eh? What I actually said was that we have no idea, or even if "cause" is applicable "prior" to the big bang. Given that this is so, trying to apply ideas like "Something coming from nothing" is foolish, and Sunday School explanations like "God did it" are inane and childish.
