An Issue Of Valuing The Lives Of Others

Agreed that non-citizens should be respected. I don’t know the specifics of non-Jewish Israeli citizens being treated but they should also be treated as any other citizen.

Yes obviously you have no idea how badly Palestinians are treated in Israel

Oh yes, people here are defending and supporting Hamas, whether they want to admit it or not. Israel’s goal is to root out Hamas. By ranting on and on against Israel, rather than supporting Israel in their goal of eliminating Hamas after their vicious, inhuman attack on October 7th, which they proudly filmed and put on display for all the world to see … sure looks like support of Hamas.

“IDF spokesman Brig.-Gen. Daniel Hagari released a statement in English, reiterating that the IDF is at war with Hamas, not the civilians of Gaza.

“I want to make something very clear,” Hagari stated. “Israel is at war with Hamas. Israel is not at war with the civilians in Gaza.”

“We are facilitating the entry of water, food, medicine and medical equipment into Gaza. Millions of liters of water per day flow from Israel into Gaza. Israel is not at war with the civilians of Gaza.”

You are very selective in your sources. Israeli actions give the lie to what you have posted.

Israel's defense minister, echoing statements also made by Netanyahu: "We are fighting animals", later going on to say that the goal is the complete destruction of Gaza. Gaza has a population of 2.3 million, about half of which are children. That statement is demonizing the Palestinians, using dehumanizing language, and promising genocide. You can watch it here:

Saying that Israel is committing war crimes is not "supporting Hamas". That is a tactic designed to silence any opposition to ambulances full of wounded being struck by the Israelis (today), the deaths of at least 3,760 Palestinian children from the bombing (are they Hamas?), the siege of Gaza since 2007, attacks and murders and displacement of about 250 Palestinians (bulldozing their houses and taking the land) in the West Bank by Israeli settlers as the IDF looks on since Oct 7th, the deaths of over 8,000 Palestinians so far, bombing entire city blocks with the justification that there was ONE Hamas leader there, all of it is disproportional, and collective punishment, which are clearly war crimes.

Your claim about aid is woefully wrong. As for humanitarian aid, right now there are 10 trucks a day in the south, and no trucks to the north. Normally they need 100 trucks per day. The water is undrinkable. There is no power. There is no food. Doctors are operating in hospitals with no anaesthesia. Doctors, journalists, and ambulance drivers are being killed.

On the siege, which has being going on since 2007, where Israel isolates, blockades Gaza, by land, sea, and air, intentionally crippling any economic development or recovery since then:

"Hamas, a political and militant faction that the US designates as a terrorist organization for its armed resistance to Israel, took over Gaza in 2007. Since then, Israel has instituted a blockade on the territory that has significantly affected the quality of life: There are extreme rates of poverty, over 60 percent of people need food assistance, and access to health care is extremely limited. UN experts have described it as “collective punishment.” About a quarter of Palestinians in Gaza, and nearly 80 percent of youth, are unemployed.

Israel and Egypt have never allowed enough construction materials into the border crossings under their control to enable Gaza’s rebuilding after conflicts. (During the May 2021 conflict, about 58,000 homes were destroyed, and Israel leveled a 12-story high-rise in Gaza that it said contained Hamas assets but also contained the offices of the news agencies Associated Press and Al Jazeera English, and the homes of many families.)"

If your rage about the heinous attack on Oct 7th doesn't let you see that this is a humanitarian disaster affecting a civilian population, I think you need to check your facts and your moral compass.

I remember a story about the short-lived previous government having a non-Jewish political party in the coalition and more funds being directed to them as a result.

But beyond that, how about a link to how non-Jewish Israeli citizens are treated.

Obviously lots of untrue crap gets thrown at our ally, Israel; so if it does something wrong its hard to be sure. The UN has people there, but the UN occasionally shows itself to be ungoverned.

These days we cannot trust video footage either, nor audio. AI has made fakes cheap. The news media has yet to provide us with signed digital news. They are technically incompetent, having seen this day coming but never preparing. Digital signing is a mature technology, but the Journalism Industry does not want to be held responsible for its words. There is no way to check if a video really is from CNN, MSNBC, AlJazeera etc. Its all hocus pocus.

I have been reading claims of genocide for thirty years, yet Gaza remains and West Bank. The boy has cried wolf many times, and he keeps lobbing bombs, too.

You can easily check if a video is from CNN, MSNBC, or Al Jazeera by going to their respective websites and looking for it.

He already addressed the subject
Then why are you disputing it?
There are enough guns that you can get and take care of the situation.
You expect women, children, the elderly, etc. to magically procure weapons and then transform into Rambos?
Good for you
Jesus thinks so, too, so at least you two agree on something. :)
Leave for about 10 city blocks, visit your brother or cousin, and come back when Israel silences the missiles.
They're not psychic. Don't you think they would if they could?

Hamas stained their hands with the blood of innocent children.

IDF stained their hands with the blood of innocent children.

I'm going to side with Jesus on this one and support the civilian victims.

While I certainly don’t think the nation and/or government of Israel is innocent of wrongdoing, but I believe they are making a serious effort to warn civilians and avoid non-combatants as much as possible under the circumstances. I don’t know of any instances of Hamas showing concern or making effort to avoid civilian casualties. On the contrary, they purposely and consistently use and attack non-combatants.

“A British journalist has given us a glimpse into the actions of the Israel Defence Forces to protect Palestinian civilians this week with a series of tweets.

Raf Sanchez, a reporter for the Daily Telegraph, was in Gaza this week and spoke to people on the ground.

“We got a sense of how careful Israel was to avoid civilian casualties during the airstrikes in #Gaza”, Sanchez tweeted.

“The Israeli army called one guy we met and spent 45 mins on the phone with him, getting him to evacuate his neighbours before they blew up a Hamas media building next to his.”

“This latest testimony, fresh from the mouth of a civilian in Gaza, supports previous reports that Israel is the most moral army in the world.

Before Israel strikes Gaza, it forwarns civilians using a variety of tools. People in the area receive texts, phone calls and on occasion, physical leaflets dropped by air to warn residents to leave the area or take shelter.

On top of this, Israel carries out “door knocking”. This is where they drop a non-lethal explosive onto the top of a building, which creates a loud noise to forewarn residents that a strike is coming.”

Why are you so quick to place blame on Israel? What about the way Hamas has for years exploited the Palestinians, taking their food, resources, and millions upon millions of financial aid to use for terrorism, rather than to benefit the people of Gaza?

“Since coming to power in a violent coup in 2007 in Gaza, the Iranian-backed Hamas terror group has systematically exploited Palestinian civilians, using them to protect their terrorist infrastructure while stealing enormous quantities of resources to build their war machine.

From diverting economic resources to the endangerment of human lives, these activities not only perpetuate the suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza - representing a crime against humanity - but also give Hamas operational advantages in its war against Israel where they win not only when they kill Israeli soldiers, but also when Israel inadvertently harms Palestinian civilians.

Here are seven ways Hamas exploits Gaza’s Palestinian civilians to further its genocidal aim to destroy Israel…”

Being the "lesser evil" doesn't make one exempt from criticism or accountability. And of course Hamas is terrorist trash, hence why their example should be avoided, not followed.

@Sargonski I think in the face of piracy by Hamas that the humanity of Hamas has been momentarily called into question by angry people. We have just now seen only a tiny measure of the hatred that Israel's enemies have prepared for her. The enemies wish more babies had been tortured and killed, more women raped, more people burned alive. The hatred and barbaric cruelty of Hamas does not make them inhuman but rather very human, so calling them inhuman is incorrect. There is nothing as satisfying as doing dark deeds while feeling righteous about it. This is the barbarity we see in the attack by Hamas, but it is a very human barbarity. As a child I never would have guessed such evil existed either in the world or in myself, but as I grew older and became aware of what was human I was stunned.

The thread accuses Jews and Christians of presuming Muslims to be lesser humans. I think an immature person usually thinks his or her group is better than others, but this is true for all people. Also in every group, at least 1/5 of the people are not very bright. About 20% of people probably don't think well and will run their mouth talking nonsense about others. But on the whole I don't think Christians consider Muslims to be lesser humans. I do think that Christians in the West are mostly ignorant about Muslims.

A well written and thoughtful post illustrating some good points- so kudo's for that even if I may disagree in places.

"Humanity of Hamas" - "momentarily called into question" -" 1/5 of the people not very bright" -

Your number is so wrong friend - as anyone who has worked in the service industry dealing with people- like a waiter - will tell you that the number of either stupid or stupidly nasty or stupidly ignorant people is far far higher .. perhaps not the reverse of your figure but .. do we say 2 out of 3 ? Its sad sad commentary .. and many folks are good at hiding .. but that is another story .. not just stupid but so nasty - petty and so on. Perhaps this is the justification for "Tyranny of the Majority" which is why I use the 2/3rs number .. number Gov't is suppose to have of the peoples consent in order to violate essential liberty / Constitution.

I don't question for a second the inhumanity of Hamas - and didn't need this latest incident confirm this - but nor did the raging masses of humanity - at least not in their own mind - as that is the pablem trope they are fed "Hamas is Evil" - but like a broken clock .. occassionly the Pablum is occastionaly correct. The word I use is "Human Garbage" if you are feeling the urge to dehumanize .. and I make no apologies for that characterization. the problem is in how one defines "Human Garbge" -- killing a baby does not necessarily make a person "Human Garbage" -- so the first question to you is .. how then do you define (HG) ?

Seeing some protester with a sign "Hamas Kills Babies" --- even if true -- does not make Hamas (HG) - less than human. There are many good valid and legitimate reasons to kill one Baby or even two that the vast majority would agree with - that the vast majority could understand .. the later justification being a hint.

What then makes one baby killer "HG" - Human Garbage ? and the other "Not - HG" ? Certainly in this 3 week affair Israel is far and away the winner in the # of Babies killed Contest -- 100 times more than the other side -- disproportionate does not do the carnage justice.

This is far better than the Historical ratio which is around 10-1 ..
