Are crystals magic?

The look and shape is important , it affects the magic.

Anyway, enough about the magical properties for now - this is clearly anti-crystal territory here.

I think it's time to re-visit the OP.

I'm quite into crystals and I'm interested to know why people who say they are tools of Satan etc.. think such things - is there any biblical reference that supports this idea?

How about other religions - Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, mainstream Christianity etc.. is there any place for crystals with you or in your religion?

I am quite happy to have a crystal in one hand and a religious text in the other - there seems to be some kind of force coming out of the crystal - could be Jesus, Pagan Force or other - any views on this?

Are they magic?

Note the religious and spiritual overtones in this post.

Note how the post focuses on how or if crystals have a connection to your religion.

Note how the post does not lead one on into thinking that a scientific answer is being looked for.

Note how the post would not be appealing to atheists.

Note, due to the general nuance of the post, a debate over the definition of the word 'magic' is pointless.

Finally note how the atheists and the like have hi-jacked this thread into a scientific bashing of a spiritual theme.

Have you tested this assumption to see if it is true? If so, how?

Anyway, enough about the magical properties for now - this is clearly anti-crystal territory here.

I have no problem with crystals, Martin.

I have a problem with someone coming in here, making claims, not providing any support for those claims, and then telling anyone who disagrees that they are wrong.

I think it's time to re-visit the OP.

Okay.

I'm quite into crystals and I'm interested to know why people who say they are tools of Satan etc.. think such things - is there any biblical reference that supports this idea?

In the Bible, crystals are described as being:

Clear: Revelation 22:1
Terrible:Ezekiel 1:22
Like a sea of glass: Revelation 4:6
Unequal to the finding of wisdom: Job 28:17

Not sure if there are other instances.

How about other religions - Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, mainstream Christianity etc.. is there any place for crystals with you or in your religion?

As I am not a member of those religions, I cannot answer for them. However, most people use crystals on a daily basis, even without realising it. Quarts is a component in digital watches, there are liquid crystals in an LCD screen. Some of the more expensive camera lenses are made of crystal. It's used in making goblets. We use crystals to flavour our food (salt). And as I've mentioned before, every single rock on the planet is made up of crystals.

I am quite happy to have a crystal in one hand and a religious text in the other - there seems to be some kind of force coming out of the crystal - could be Jesus, Pagan Force or other - any views on this?

Please define this force you speak of and explain how you can sense it emanating from the crystal.

Are they magic?

No.

Note the religious and spiritual overtones in this post.

That doesn't mean that non-religious can't answer.

Note how the post focuses on how or if crystals have a connection to your religion.

Actually, you said, "is there any place for crystals with you", which does not exclude a non-religious answer.

Note how the post does not lead one on into thinking that a scientific answer is being looked for.

Well, you asked if crystals are magic, and I said no. If you disagree, I will explain to you that crystals are not magic because there is no scientific evidence for magic in any form,a nd certainly no scientific evidence for magic in connection with crystals. Unless you are saying that we aren't allowed to use science in this thread, then I don't see how you can complain when it is used.

Note how the post would not be appealing to atheists.

Then I certainly wouldn't have replied.

Note, due to the general nuance of the post, a debate over the definition of the word 'magic' is pointless.

If we refuse to define the word "magic" then any conversation about it is meaningless. Any word that has no definition is meaningless.

Finally note how the atheists and the like have hi-jacked this thread into a scientific bashing of a spiritual theme.

Well, actually, it's been people saying there is no scientific evidence for magic in general and magic connected to crystals in particular. If you feel that this is bashing spirituality, then I'm sorry, but there are countless scientists who are also spiritual.

What we are bashing is accepting something without evidence and ignoring evidence that refutes a viewpoint. As far as I am concerned, a person would have to be quite stupid to hold onto a viewpoint when there was testable, repeatable and verifiable scientific evidence that says that the particular viewpoint is wrong. Do you disagree?

I tend to agree there.

Which of the two does the better job of explaining the world in which we live?

Magic does not seek, or pretend, to explain the world in which we live.
This is not it's role, function, or it's reason for being.

The notion that magic would/(might) explain the world in which we live
and/or the (implied) insinuation that it is 'inferior' to science
(in 'terms' of science)
is as nonsensical as putting out a newspaper and a toilet paper roll
and asking which of the two does the better job of wiping your bum.
(as if it were a serious question, or it "proved" something about the newspaper-in terms of inferiority)

Magic does not seek, or pretend, to explain the world in which we live.

Then how can it be said to apply to any part of the world in which we live?

The comparison? is as nonsensical as putting out a newspaper and a toilet paper roll
and asking which of the two does the better job of wiping your bum.
(as if it were a serious question, or it "proved" something)

And I would have to ask why you kept a newspaper in the bathroom at all.

The simple fact is that if you are right and magic tells us nothing about the world in which we live, then what is the point of it?

You keep a newspaper in the bathroom
to read
while you're sitting on your porcelain throne.
(before you wipe your bum with the toilet paper)

You practice magic to effectively help you make/REALize changes in yourSelf,
in your Psyche, your Subjective Reality, and then out into the world
where many Subjective Realities interact and work together
in matters of Objective change and development.

You can also practice "illusionary" magic out in the world
by effecting the changes/manifestations you seek
through the "changing" of peoples' minds
or the pragmatic observance of the tendencies of their 'Vision',
and the "grabbing" of their attention.
(ie, look.. focus here....
see this.... and not that....)
It could be as simple as the way one purposefully re'presents themSelf
at a job interview.
It could be a lawyer in a courtroom,
or a salesman closing a deal.
Sometimes we call this charisma,
which does not come naturally to many of us.
(bringing us back to my original underlined statement)

Magic begins in the Psyche,
and it seeks to effect change.

sounds like a good summing up :)

but be careful, he'll be asking you for a source or empirical evidence of that next!

who has ever said that magic does explain the world in which me live? - not me anyway.

Then like I asked... What';s the point of it?

You keep a newspaper in the bathroom
to read
while you're sitting on your porcelain throne.
(before you wipe your bum with the toilet paper)

Which has nothing to do with wiping your bum. You are missing the point I was trying to make...

You practice magic to effectively help you make/REALize changes in yourSelf,
in your Psyche, your Subjective Reality, and then out into the world
where many Subjective Realities interact and work together
in matters of Objective change and development.

I don't see how crystals play an essential part in that. Sounds to me like what you call magic is merely the power of positive thinking.

You can also practice "illusionary" magic out in the world

Like I said, it sounds like positive thinking.

Magic begins in the Psyche,
and it seeks to effect change.

Positive thinking. Doesn't need anything apart from the mind, and it is based on creating ideas about yourself in your mind. No need for crystals or anything else.

What you have discussed is stuff that comes from a person's MIND. Not crystals. So if it comes from the mind, how can you use this as an argument to say that crystals have some magic? At best, they'd be like Dumbo's magic feather.

Positive thinking is fluff with no substance.

Besides that, I certainly never said that crystals were 'magic'.
Some things help some people relax,
meditate,
focus,
become introspective.
Could be a rock or a pillow.
Some things hold useful symbolic meaning
for some people.
Could be a feather or a boulder.
Some things relax the psyche.
Some things stimulate it.
Some things aid it in it's aims.
Some things 'trigger' it.
Some things re-mind it.
Some things help it Set to a certain chosen form.
(like my refrigerator Sets Jello. -- that's science. ;) )

Perceptive and thorough Self Awareness and Self Analysis,
or the Methodical Observation of Self,

of the Maga.
Purposeful Suspension of Disbelief is the Catlyst/Setting Agent.

The Artisan Realizes and Shapes the totality of her Psyche.
She seeks to Become as her Own work of Art.
She is in fact, her own Masterwork.

"Positive thinking" - as most people understand and practice it
generally results in a bunch of psyches
walking around with their heads in the clouds.

So, Ultraviolet, what does any of that have to do with crystals or magic?

Crystals are rocks.
Now reread my previous post #232.

As for magic?
You were the one who wrongly inferred that the aims of magic
had something to do with the aims of science.
I was merely correcting you.

So they merely help people use their mind to acheive things?

And when did I say that the aims of magic and the aims of science were the same?

Your question (underlined),
clearly carried the implication.
Or why would you have even begged the question?

you are still going down the science path.

science and religion don't mix.

I tend to agree there.

That is not begging the question.

To beg the question means to assume as a premise the very thing you wish to prove.

My point about the question was that the idea of magic is of no practical use and has no measurable influence in the world we live in. There is no reason to accept it as true.

10. if crystals have a god force maybe stones have a devil force?
11. how do i use crystals?
12. will books like the crystal bible be of any help?

"Positive thinking is fluff with no substance."

There is hard scentific evidence that positive thinking is benefical, healthy and reduces stressors. It can even change the way certain parts of the brain grows

Positive thoughts create positive chemical and electrical activity in the brain and body and negative thoughts create negative chemical and electrical activity in the brain and body.
