Are you going to get the flu shot (H1N1)?

Well that puts a whole new perspective on the "mandatory" part of the vaccine. If people have to pay for it, that would be quite lucrative for the drug companies involved!

People have to pay for it either way, whether through taxes or out of pocket at the clinic. It certainly is lucrative - that's exactly why I don't trust any information coming from the government or mainstream media. Both are too easily manipulated by industry lobbyists, and neither check their facts before they start mouthing off about how things are.

It's not mandatory in the U.S. save for some health related jobs that are requiring it (and I assume they don't have to pay out of pocket).

No but some countries are making it mandatory. I have also heard that Colorado has gone to a mandatory status too. In Canada we are already hearing about people that can't work if they haven't had the shot, so while it's not mandatory, it is being forced on those who want to work at those companies. It's a back door way of forcing people to have the shot if they want to work. We have also had quite a stream of "guilt" propaganda. By that I mean people talking about those who don't get the shot possibly getting at risk groups sick or over extending the medical system. Appealing to people's sense of responsibility to others in other words. It's interesting for sure. I know there has been quite a big response where I live and long line ups. We are temporarily out of the vaccine and so some people are upset that they can't get one. It really seems highly emotional no matter which side you happen to fall on.

I read a blog post this morning from a teacher who just got his shot. It'll take about two weeks for the immunity from the vaccine to be effective, and he was mulling over whether he should refuse to allow children in his class who hadn't had their shots until that two week period is up.

I think he has a point.

What did the vaccine do to your postman?

I'd rather not take it because I want to personally test the effectiveness of concentrated Sambucus Nigra (in the commerical formula Sambucol) in reducing the severity of flu.

That's a problem, actually. Without having some reliable way to test whether I've been infected with flu I have no way of reliably verifying how effective it is. I have to make an educated guess.

BTW I am 2000 posts old today!

My grandfather was just bullied by his doctor to get the swine vaccine and surprise surprise he immediately came down with the flu.

It looks like my plans to get vaccinated may have to wait a bit.

We have a shortage of flu vaccine here, so the flu shot clinics are turning away anyone who isn't "high priority", like health care workers, people who are immune-compromised, etc.

I have been sick for a week now, and I haven't been this sick in 20 years. It's awful. I've never bothered with flu vaccines in the past, but after going through this, I'll be likely strongly considering it in the future.

Meh. It wasn't much. You take Tamiflu... You eat and do whatever you want. General feeling of weakness. Sore throat, tickly nose... That was it really. I ate everything I wanted to eat. No biggie.
Glad you're okay and got a mild version. I pretty much had what you describe except I got more fever and headache with a wicked cough. Took me about 5 days, but I ate and went for walks everyday so couldn't have been too bad. Wasn't fun though:no:
