Atheists and God

gerobbins

What's your point?
What, didn't get the response you were hoping for?

Got the response I was expecting. Why would I expect anything else? Are you going to change the way you think? I doubt it. I am not going to change the way I think. Unless you want to debate it further, but what would be the point of it all?
Yawn!

he said hoping....

hoping does not equate expect, captain
just like ignorance doesn't mean unintelligent
or faith doesn't mean control

it's funny though you're the one that started this thread and you say...

how do you know if someone else is open minded or not?
you certainly are not, since you flat out said so...

if you give a good argument...then that would be something completely different...but since you started this thread with unfounded accusations and then say I AM NOT GOING TO CHANGE THE WAY I THINK
says pretty much what everyone else knew before you came to that conclusion for yourself...

What is your point? I say, you say, it comes down to the same thing, a never ending battle of the wits. I say what I think and a sarcastic reponse comes next. In turn, I come back with sarcasm as well.

There will never be an intelligent debate on this thread because everyone takes it so personal. Maybe if we all decided to be polite, then maybe, just maybe we can continue. Otherwise :sleep: put this thread to sleep.

Did you learn anything from this thread?

Do you think that maybe you over-generalized in your article?

Can you see how you made this issue a personal issue?

What will you do differently if this thread continues or if you start a new thread?

I nominate this for most hypocritical statement of the day. You came here with an article that paints atheists as everything from fools to the reason for the low quality of prime time television. I think that most of the replies here have been remarkably restrained considering the impolite nature of the article in the OP.

Yes, the classic "Little ole me" syndrome. You act as if you did nothing wrong and we mean ole atheists just came at you with all kinds of sarcasm. In reality, you started the thread with an article that is not only very ignorant on the topic of atheism, but also makes atheists out to be bad and stupid. You can't start out being condescending to a whole group -- especially when you're obviously very misinformed about that group -- and then continue with your misinformed opinions despite an attempt to correct them, and expect no sarcasm.

There could easily be an intelligent debate on this thread, but you don't want that. You want to keep pretending that your fantasies about atheists are true, and that you're the one trying to be intelligent while the rest of us attack you. If you step out of that fantasy into reality, we could discuss things intelligently.

Looks like a collection of the usual straw men, circular argument and special pleading that theists tend to use when trying to do apologetics.

Oh, ok.

So you won't mind if I write an article claiming that Christians believe that the Earth stands still while the sun moves around it, and they are personally responsible for all the crap they serve at MacDonald's?

You wouldn't try to point out, "Hey, the vast majority of Chrisitians have long accepted Copernicus' theory, and I have no idea how you can blame us for Mickey D's"?

Let me just break down this thread....

GE- Atheists are bad!
RF- Not really, let me show you where you are mistaken.
GE- Atheists are bad!
RF- You are making over-generalizations.
GE- Atheists are bad!
RF- Here are your faulty assumptions....
GE- Atheists are bad!
RF- You are using many fallacious arguments.
GE- Atheists are bad!
RF- Can you back up your statements with facts?
GE- Atheists are bad!! Nanah Nanah Boo Boo!!
RF-

I see. You post some nonsense that show blatant ignorance, and then when you get called out on it, you get bored. Then when you get called out on that, we're the ones who are sensitive and high-maintenance. Well, whatever helps you feel better about yourself (regardless of whether it has anything to do with reality), I guess. If you'd rather just have your biased and unsupported claims supported and cherished, why not go to a site that will give you that? This is a site for intelligent, good, rational discussion.

Naw, just bored of the whole thing thats all.

She was talking about your original article, I believe. And I do love how when people start to show you the problems with your reasoning and views, you suddenly get bored. Something tells me if people had come on here and supported you and said "Yeah, those darn atheists! They're so stupid and bad!", you wouldn't have gotten bored with it.

from the link:
What Richard Dawkins and atheists are lacking is a personal relationship with God. They are missing out on the pure joy we as Christians have with our relationship with God. They have never truly experienced what it is to have a relationship our Lord.

I think that ended the debate.

Fallacy #1: Assumes its conclusion. Circular argument.

And how is it unsupported? Its an opinion, no reason to get hostile about it.

O.K., let's go through it line by line, starting with the first line:
There are many out there nowadays saying they have proof that God does not exist.
This is what we call a straw man, which means making up the other side's argument falsely. There are not many out there saying this. There are many saying there is no evidence for God, especially for particular Gods, such as YHWH, or that the concept is illogical, but not that there is proof that God doesn't exist. Because, of course, this sort of negative cannot be proved. So it starts right out with a cheap, dishonest, unsuitable argument.

What's your point?
Then why did you post it?

Would you like to examine it and discuss the particular fallacies individually?

Everyone is so sensitive. Post an artricle on Theists and why you think they are wrong. Then we can debate both.

Otherwise, there is no point.
