Established authority? Not good enough. Especially in the case of establishing authority.
Common sense .Informed by what?
.....Common sense .
I trusted The Gospel and was saved by Jesus . The bible confirmed everything that happened to me ......
That holds no water.
Barry, PLEASE tell me why you are a Christian and believe the Bible. Thus far, the only answer is i’ve gotten from you is “I believe because the text told me I should”.
That doesn’t answer my question.I trusted The Gospel and was saved by Jesus . The bible confirmed everything that happened to me .
I just read it .It is complicated. We’re reading texts from which we are separated by language, culture and time. They are a disparate collection of texts with varying authors, that have undergone extensive editing over the course of centuries. All those factors complicate things.
It should have done . Thats the reason I'm a believer .That doesn’t answer my question.

Trying this again with my answer:I trusted The Gospel and was saved by Jesus . The bible confirmed everything that happened to me .
I agree with this part .Trying this again with my answer:
I do NOT believe the Bible because the Bible said I should.
I do NOT believe a word Paul said because Paul said I should.
I do NOT believe the Bible because my mom/pastor/whomever told me a I should.
All of those would be me looking to man for salvation.
I DO believe the Bible because ultimately I asked GOD Himself and He told me I should. God Himself is with whom I have a relationship with and is my Savior. He is my Lord. He is the ultimate source of truth.
Have you done the same?
I would add . I believed the Gospel. 1 cor 15 ,1-4Trying this again with my answer:

Well, you obviously don’t...Nonsense . If any of that were true no one could understand it .
they’re all complicated in that manner.Show me a verse which is complicated?
Did you believe the Gospel? And what would you say the Gospel is?Trying this again with my answer:
I do NOT believe the Bible because the Bible said I should.

That the texts are their own authority. They are not. We ascribe authority to them.Established authority?
Well, isn’t that special!I just read it .
///That they have undergone editing over the course of centuries .//// Nonsense .Well, you obviously don’t...
What part do you think is untrue? That the texts are ancient? That they were written by several authors? That they are culturally diverse? That they were written in ancient languages with which we are largely unfamiliar? That they have undergone editing over the course of centuries? What about any of those facts do you find “untrue?”
Well you sound weird if you can't understand that basic concept.Well, isn’t that special!
Depends if you believe it comes from God or not .That the texts are their own authority. They are not. We ascribe authority to them.
36¶And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.they’re all complicated in that manner.
But, for example, take the story in Luke 24:36b-48. We can’t get a true interpretation of that pericope until we understand what was happening culturally in the details of the story.
How about the entirety of what I saidI agree with this part .
