What shocks me about the United States...is that teenagers manage to get firearms in some states...
but at the same time ....alcohol is like the most forbidden thing for teenagers.
They even check people's ID to sell them alcohol.

Here in my country...there's anarchy as for alcohol. There's the middle-schooler that buys vodka bottles in the supermarket and tells the cashier: "It's for my dad"... and they reply: "ok, dear".
But here not even adults can buy firearms unless they have a firearm license. And they don't give the license to any person. They need a medical expertise.

As if alcohol were more dangerous than a gun. Wow..
Guns can be useful, depending on the handler, and, hopefully, are not intoxicating. Some parents teach their kids to hunt. IMO, alcohol is not useful. It can be yummy and fun, but so are other things.

I was not advocating for the abolition of the 2nd amendment.:)
Nevertheless I think that there should be more limitations to prevent lunatics from buying firearms.

Having lived in the UK all my life (but widely travelled) I'm sure I am like most in not needing any special defensive measures over what is normal - locks and communication devices to summon aid - given that even if crime (burglary mainly) might be just as common as in many other countries, living in fear of such is just not any way to live one's life.

I totally agree that living in fear is not how one should live one’s life.

Yes, for physical security and home defense, because I know that the only thing enforcing my rights as an individual is violence and I believe in personal responsibility

I do not own any guns; never have.
I have nothing against ownership of guns, but some people should not be able to own them. And some kind of guns simply shouldn't be in the hands of civilians, ever.
Having guns would not make me feel safer and more secure; knowing that some are carrying--sometimes openly--does not make me feel more safe and secure...indeed, makes me feel less secure and safe; I don't trust any of them.

I live a 20-minute drive from Canada and go there regularly, and their gun laws are vastly saner than ours in the States. Getting a permit to carry is difficult but possible, for one example.

Yes, Canada is like Europe.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Yes, I guess I feel pretty safe because you know, it's very difficult for criminals to own a gun, so that reassures me.
Besides, I think there are neighborhoods with tens of cameras in every corner and that dissuades delinquents.
Surveillance societies seem incredibly oppressive.

Of all the many long & short guns I've
ever owned, I have only my Glock 22.
(That's the old full-size 40 S&W version.)
When not carried, it's in a hidden safe.
