Groping: a male and female perspective

^^^ This!

Pegg, why don't you just admit that you are a feminist.

I think its a simple common courtesy and respect of another person. I dont think you have to be a feminist to be respectful to others.

Its more about being moral.

However, if groping is seen as "not a big deal" (which it's been said before on this forum), AND there's a number of people who say the same thing that it's not a big deal and it isn't sexual assault, there has to be strength in numbers in opposition.

Is there another social and political movement that argues against groping?

aren't there laws against it? ie sexual harrasment laws?

Im sure someone can't just touch someone inappropriately.

If the majority of people think its ok, then thats good reason to go against the grain and stand out in defiance of such a practice.

Exactly. Keep your hands to yourself (and whatever else)!

The funniest part of this thread was somebody squealing about being groped by a strange guy, but wondering if women were acting when they were outraged by the exact same thing:facepalm:

Yes. They exist on the books. But they're rarely enforced.

They do. A lot.

People think, in theory, that it IS a bad thing. But it's got two things working against it in regards to change: 1) the people in the positions of political and legislative decision making power don't see it a big enough deal to do anything more about it, and 2) speaking out against it tends to draw a lot of ire from people who don't want to rock the boat, and would rather the sexual status quo be maintained.

That groping tends to be forgiven or passed over a lot is part of what some people would call rape culture. It's expected, and not liked that much, but....what can you do, you know? (so it's said at times).

Hmm.. well that's because it is really mild. If I started projecting my fantasies, children might start crying or something.
That isn't terribly impressive, making little kids cry.

Make Alceste, peacemaker, or nymphs cry and I'll be impressed.

Tom

Eta. Make mystic cry and get out of hospital in under a week then I'll be really impressed

Cutting onions in the general proximity would probably be the easiest route. Or suggest some of the most depressing movies I know of.

I have to admit as a male I've enjoyed the times I was groped by the opposite sex. I've never met a woman that I felt enjoyed it when strange men groped them. (Not by me mind you, I have a strict no groping policy with ladies). Women always seem to feel violated. But it does beg a couple of questions. Men: do you enjoyed getting groped by the opposite sex? Women: is acting offended sometimes just an act to not appear loose?
I am not sure how I would feel. I have never been groped. But, neither I have ever been hit on either. My first impression is I probably wouldn't mind. Could be a nice confidence booster, at least initially.

Unless there is consent, I hate being groped by another person. Heck, sometimes a hug gets too uncomfortable for me, let alone someone grabbing the family jewels.

You project fantasies about onions?
Tom

Oh, you mean making them cry with my fantasies? I doubt it. I'm sure whatever I've done, they've likely done as well. No, sharing my fantasies would likely just make everyone uncomfortable, given the context.

Knowing what I know about West Lafayette I bet you have. You're just a decent guy who passed it off as an accident.

i totally agree with you

and the issue is the lack of morals. We have been in moral decline for long time now....and there are many things which feed it.
