We need discernment. Jesus used all kinds of methods to preach.
Indeed; and living in a life of misery is not something I think would be something that Jesus would want, as someone who came to heal the sick.
Take a quick look at Matthew 19 again.
The point isn't that you have to live in involuntary celibacy because your wife and yourself have separated, it's that you're supposed to heal the relationship instead of divorcing in rage or political reasons. It's much more detailed and nuanced than this, but it's 11pm.
There may even be Aramaic subtleties that are lost upon the translation; for example, it may not even be meant to be literally taken as unfaithfulness, but ones of rebelliousness or even idolatry. We simply don't know.
In addition, take note of what Jesus' disciples said in response to this, and his response to them; "The one who
can accept this should accept it.". It's not a commandment. Can you accept it? I know I couldn't. Don't get bogged down on minor details like this anyway; remember the two greatest commandments.
Christians do and Jesus does. I would bring the reference if you want on.
Not all do (trust me on this
) and we have no way of knowing whether or not Jesus took him as an actual opponent of God. Considering Jesus grew up as a Jewish lad then I doubt it because Judaism has no conception of an opponent of God, much less Satan, who is considered to be an agent of God. It would be interesting for another thread. Please feel free to open one up and link it so I can read and contribute.
