How does the story of Adam and Eve compatible with science?

Quite.

It's rather tiresome, but also revealing, when people have to resort to pretending not to understand you, in order to defend their position ;).
There are some rather extreme sects of Christianity that teach things that if it is not literally true that it is a lie. And for their version of God to be real everything in the Bible has to be literally true. I have also noticed that at least a couple of posters here cannot seem to understand the concept of an analogy. I wonder if the inability to understand an analogy is related to that sort of teaching.

They must think all novels are lies, then. In fact the Merriam-Webster definition of allegory could not be clearer:

"the expression by means of symbolic fictional figures and actions of truths or generalizations about human existence". Note the word "truths".

Treating an allegory as a "lie" is infantile.

Yes, and for a rational person that cause people to lose their beliefs in God at a rather high rate. Which is why those churches need to constantly evangelize and seek out new members. The JW's are notorious for their endless door knocking and for the Mormons the male youths have to spend a good part of a summer or so trying to spread the word. If it was not for the constant recruitment those sects would probably quickly die a natural death.

Scientists demonstrate evolution to everyone. I would say that unverifiable personal experiences are quite inferior to the scientific method in terms of demonstrating the facts of reality.
I believe your statement is false because it as not been demonstrated to me. I suspect for many people it was not demonstrate either but simply propagandized.

Well, they were "materialized." But since the Israelites were writing long after these ancient transactions, they didn't understand how they came into being.
I believe Moses got his information from God and He knows everything so the amount of time is meaningless.

As the saying goes "None are so blind as those that will not see." It does not matter what you see, it matters what honest people that are not afraid can see. There will always be those that cannot handle reality. If your faith in God is strong it should not matter to you how life came about.

And it is of course the evidence that demonstrates evolution, but you are probably too afraid to even learn what counts as evidence and why.
I haven't seen any evidence. I would know it if I did. The fact is I can't see something that isn't there unless you buy into the emperor's new suit of clothes.

It's demonstrable to everyone. It's set up that way. But scientists can't force you to seek out the information they have published. You have to do that for yourself. You seem to have no problem accepting most other findings of science like say, gravity and germ theory, which are demonstrated in the exact same way that evolution is. You sit on a computer typing information across the internet, which is another achievement of science that you don't seem to have any problem accepting and is demonstrated scientifically in the exact same way. So what's your problem with evolution?

You do not even know what counts as evidence and are probably too afraid to learn what is and what is not evidence. If you can get over your fears. If you can be honest with yourself, then you can learn too. Fear is a big part of what keeps creationists creationists.

The Bible, starting with Genesis, is told as a continuous story. I'm fine with it being like an historical novel that has true historical events in it, and could have actual historical people in it, but they make up and embellish the story with things that didn't happen.

But what do believers do? Especially Fundy Christians? Since the Bible is a continuous story, when was it just an allegory and when does it become actual history? And, of course, for some of us, even if the events and people were real and historical, the story is embellished with God intervening and taking part in the story. Once that happens, it sure sounds like mythical, religious fiction to me.

Magic realism is a good term.

Does it really matter which is history and what is allegory? The point is what it teaches.
