AUSTRALIAN WORDS FOR BEER
  • Beer
  • P1ss
  • Home Brew
  • Frothy
  • Bevvy
  • Pot/Schooner (ie. glass sizes)
  • Cold One/Coldie
  • King Brown/Stubbie/Tinny (ie. bottle sizes or a can)
  • Slab (or case...depends where ya are...)
  • Traveller (beer you take for the car trip)

AUSTRALIAN WORDS FOR NOT BEER
Buggered if I know. Depends on the drink type. But what you guys call soda, we call 'soft drink' which is perhaps indicative of the perceived manliness of non-alchoholic beverages.

...and, of corz we all know why Queenslanders call their beer 'XXXX' - it's because they can't spell 'BEER'.

Ironically, and like Sunstone said, the commercials for Foster's in the US specifically say "Foster's, Australian for beer".

Can't brain. Has dumb.
Wait... a tinny is a beer?

On this side of the ditch, a tinny is the smallest measure of marijuana you'd buy on the street level. It comes wrapped in tin foil, hence the name tinny. One could also buy these at a tinny house, which is not a pub. They are worth about $20, I hear.

The worst Aussie accent ever was done by Michael Caine in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, which proves that poms can't speak Aussie:

This is an example of what not to sound like.

What about Geoffery Rush in The King's Speech?

Said he was Australian, sounded like a Brit. Seemed a bit off, unless im missing something.

Can of beer, although if you asked people to tell you what a tinny was without context, I reckon most would say a small boat with an outboard.

Paul Hogan and Steve Erwin taught the rest the of the world all they've ever needed to know about Australia. ;)

Oh my God! We're not actually like that. No, no, no.
They're like Frankenstein monsters of stereotypes. Some of those have grounding in reality (or most of them, I guess), but the sum total of them all ends up like a caricature.

I still find it hard to believe Steve Irwin's public persona matched his private one, but if so he was a rarity.

Most of us are just humble, good-looking and funny, struggling to keep the mortgage paid, and the dingoes away from the babies.

I've heard lots of people want to move to Australia but also that there are tight controls over who may immigrate. Is it really that good over there?

I reckon we're a 6/10 easily. Maybe even a 7.
Given that the rest of the world seems to be a 2 or 3, this makes us amazingly good.

Long as the rest of the world keeps underachieving, we'll keep winning.
Please consider the following video as a clear example of Australian awesomeness, and why we're NO.1 BABY!!! (err...sorry on that last bit...been posting with too many Americans, maybe?)
