Everyone has life experience. Welcome to the club. Well conducted studies are usually more reliable than individual life experiences when answering questions such as this one.

for instance, I've never worked a job where there have been dual wage rates - have you, and if so, where?

And you know there have not been dual wages...how? Did you survey all your fellow workers? Or have you just worked the kinds of jobs -- such as McDonald's -- where you know within a few cents what your fellow workers are making? It's because most of us don't know what our fellow workers are being paid that well conducted surveys tend to be more accurate than individual impressions.

It's not needed anymore, because wage levels are the same for men and women, as are rights etc..

Men and women are already equal.

You've got a point, anecdotally speaking, it's pretty hard to find situations where girls get less than boys, every job I worked it's the same pay for same hours. But there might be a few isolated cases, even if there's one example of blatant discrimination, it's worth fighting for.

Because of a plethora of factors not the least of which is a society which places a higher value on makes and masculinity.

Like porn actors? Women have historically made more per scene than men. Gay porn offers a slight increase in wages, but women in spite of the saturation in the labor market in the porn industry make more than men. I have suggested on many occasion that I think compensation overall in the industry is discriminatory.

This is true. A few examples are secretaries, teachers, bartenders/servers, hosts/maitre'd, nurses, babysitters/nannies. Working in the restaurant industry I definitely notice that females are hired more often than males for front-of-house jobs such as servers, hosts, and bartenders. Also, the female servers get better sections and whatever they ask for.

It's kind of obvious; the restaurant makes more money with attractive women out front, because most of the patrons are middle-aged men. They're more likely to buy the more expensive dishes/drinks on the menu if there's a cute 20-something female suggesting they do. I get better tips from the cougars for the same reason. The only way to get tips or increase sales is to become a sexual object.

if I am understanding you correctly, you are essentially saying "sex sells" is that correct?

Why do you think sex sells so well, and is this the case with baby sitting and education too?
