Is having sex without a relationship aka a one time thing a Morally wrong thing and if so why ?

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
For instance, my youngest son, who is 3o freaking 5, is living with his girlfriend, and they are not married. They have been living together for at least four years. I like her. I can't and don't worry about the decisions they are making, because they are both consenting adults.

You said "I am a Christian and I believe that sex outside of marriage is morally wrong".
With that said if they are having sex then its morally wrong to you.

But as you stated here "I can't and don't worry about the decisions they are making, because they are both consenting adults".

And that's the way it should be IMO.

Like I said, I have enough to worry about keeping my own self straight! LOL

If I'm one of those consenting adults who are engaging in an intimate activity,
I still am responsible for my participation in that act.
I agree with the premise that a one-night stand with a partner
whose name is a mystery is still a relationship.
As a male, my first responsibility to my partner is her safety and well-being.
So, I'm not very 'cool', unless it's your daughter I'm with.

How is a one night stand a relationship ?

I look at this mainly from the perspective of being libertarian; what individuals do with each other is none of my business, provided they are not victimizing anyone.

Is that the same question, though?

For me, the answer to the question "is it moral for someone else to do this?" doesn't automatically imply an answer to "should I be stopping them from doing it?"

I still do not think a one night stand is a relationship.

I know that some may be offended by this sexual question but a lot of people have sex without a relationship with a stranger and I am wondering what this would mean morally if it means anything morally.
IMO, sex without any type of commitment becomes problematic if a child is conceived. Kids do better with a family to feel secure in.

I, too, believe, it is none of my business what others do, provided they are not victimizing anyone.

You are having trouble with the word 'relationship'. Let's change it to 'interaction'. Are you responsible for your actions?

We use different words for the type of interactions we experience. Let's not get hung up on definitions.

In that case I agree that a one night stand is an interaction.

What she said. I'm in 30 year relationship now, so I wouldn't be doing such a thing any more (my choice), but there was a time...and it was enjoyable and nobody was injured.
Did you feel you had a responsibility to anyone you were intimate with? If they were a stranger and they showed sign of injury would you help them or because you didn't know them well, leave them to fend for themself?

I would help anyone that showed signs of injury, whether I knew them or not. I have a responsibility to all humans who have done me no harm to treat them with respect, and with care, if they need it.
