Is masturbating bad at all ?

I could counter each of these putative good purposes with ill side effects. Instead I would invite you to re-read what I actually wrote and not respond to a straw man. I wrote that it can produce harm, not that it always does.
I'm afraid they were not responding to a straw man, because the claim you made that they were ACTUALLY responding to more specifically was this one (emphasis):

"Masturbation is bad inasmuch as it ultimately serves no good purpose and can produce harm."

They provided multiple examples of good purposes that it serves. Ergo, they refuted a claim you made and did not engage in a straw man. Nor did they in any way suggest that you claimed it ALWAYS produced harm so, ironically, you are engaging in a straw man.

In which case they still fail. What I wrote is correct, masturbation ultimately serves no good purposes. They disprove that.

Nope that can't be it since I don't do it at all. Maybe you can't admit that there isn't really any "right" way to do it. It is always a futile, vain act.
How can you speak intelligently about something you don't do at all?

This is like saying the taste of chocolate is repulsive without ever having sampled it.

Are you arguing that someone must experience something to understand it? That is foolish and quite beneath you.

masturbation ultimately serves no good purposes.

  • release sexual tension.
  • reduce stress.
  • help you sleep better.
  • improve your self-esteem and body image.
  • help treat sexual problems.
  • relieve menstrual cramps and muscle tension.
  • strengthen muscle tone in your pelvic and anal areas.
Is Masturbation Healthy?

  • Masturbation can reduce the chance of prostate cancer - great benefit.
  • Masturbation is a safe way to release sexual tension during pregnancy - great benefit
  • Masturbation doesn’t have harmful side effects...

I can't find anything to say masturbation serves no useful purpose

Maybe yes, maybe no.

"While research is promising, there’s still a lot scientists need to learn. Some things to consider:

  • There’s no proof that ejaculating more actually causes lower chances of prostate cancer. For now, doctors just know they’re connected. It may be that men who do it more tend to have other healthy habits that are lowering their odds.
  • Ejaculation doesn’t seem to protect against the most deadly or advanced types of prostate cancer. Experts don’t know why.
  • Scientists don’t know if ejaculation during sex vs. masturbation has the same benefits. Some research has found that the makeup of semen is different for each. For example, semen during sex has higher levels of sperm and some chemicals. It’s possible that these could make a difference in a man’s odds of having prostate cancer.
  • Not all studies have found a benefit. The 2016 study got attention because of its size (almost 32,000 men) and length (18 years). But some smaller studies have not shown the same good results. A few even found that some men, specifically younger men, who masturbated more had slightly higher chances of prostate cancer. Some researchers wonder if a man’s age may affect whether more ejaculation helps."

  • release sexual tension.
Resolving tension is better.
  • reduce stress.
Eliminating the stress is better.
  • help you sleep better.
Um, temporarily but in the long run no.
  • improve your self-esteem and body image.
No. That is not in evidence.
  • help treat sexual problems.em
No, not to the extent that it causes them. Exempli gratis erectile dysfunction and impaired partner relationships.
  • relieve menstrual cramps and muscle tension.
There are better alternatives for these without the potential deleterious side effects.
  • strengthen muscle tone in your pelvic and anal areas.
Another unproven assertion.

Any putative "benefit" of masturbation is temporary and doesn't address the putative reason for doing it. Each of these suppose reasons (rationalizations) you mention can be dealt with through other means that don't have the potential side effects that masturbation has.

Which is why i said "can" and not "does"

From my link...
Some research suggests that regular ejaculation may lower the risk of prostate cancer, though doctors aren’t exactly sure why.
A 2016 cohort studyTrusted Source of 31,925 participants and 18 years of follow-up found that a lower risk of prostate cancer was associated with a higher frequency of ejaculation. A survey of current literature from 2016 noted that 44 percent of studies analyzed reported a similar link between frequent ejaculation and lower prostate cancer risk.
There’s no evidence, though, that ejaculating regularly protects against advanced prostate cancer, so more research is needed.

Smaller studies are generally far inferior to large studies due to the statistical nature of diseases. You will find a lot more variation in small studies. Large studies tend to focus in on reality.

Of course, but still it is hard to make definitive connections in such type of studies.

My assertion was that masturbation can be harmful. That is based on evidence. Or do you deny that masturbation can ever be harmful?
Your logic absurd. Just because something has the potential to be harmful doesn't mean it ultimately serves no good purposes.

Driving can be harmful. Does driving ultimately serve no good purpose.

What about eating?

There is nothing about masturbation that requires personally practicing it to understand the aspects I have written about from being understood.

My assertion was that masturbation can be harmful. That is based on evidence. Or do you deny that masturbation can ever be harmful?
That’s a pretty feeble argument. Can not masturbating ever be harmful? You could find at least as many studies that indicate yes. If you want to argue that masturbation is bad in some sense, you need an argument that goes beyond your vague belief that it somehow just is.

The truth is most of these supposed benefits you put forth could be attained with other more beneficial means such as exercise, meditation and adding more fiber to your diet. But if someone is a masturbation aficionado or addict it isn't about reason, it all about their next high.

There's one thing that, to me, overrides everything else that has been discussed. It feels good!

It's like scratching an itch. It feels good when you are doing it. And afterwards you don't have an itch, for a while at least.

Sure there are times when it's not a good thing to do, like when you have a condition that will be made worse by scratching (in which case you should get medical attention) but when there's no such reason to resist the urge to scratch, why not do it?
