Is promiscuous sexual behavior healthy?

what is the purpose of being overly-promiscuous though?

to me it displays a kind of disregard for humanity and for oneself.

a kind of insecure and immoral obssession.

Kinda like being judgmental and pretending there's a one size fits all sexuality?

there is a one size fits all though.

it is called curbing those natural instincts and not living for pure self-gratification.

strength comes from abstinence from pleasure, some of the time.

Actually, the dangers of sexual repression are well known. In extreme cases, it can lead to suicide.

Why do you think it is immoral? We have all kinds of contact with others, be it emotional, physical or the exchange of ideas. Why is promiscuous conduct different? Is it different because it is initiated by the female?

Some of the time, but not all of the time.

curbing one's lusts does not need to mean total abstinence.

and suicide? - what kind of cases are we talking about here?

I've said why it is immoral - it cheapens the human body into that of an object.

I really don't care. Your standards are not universal. They're not even popular anymore, and since you insist on the tyranny of the majority, you should man up and accept that you've lost this one. It's called being consistent.

Maybe for you. Other people are a little more stable in their self image.

Can you define promiscuity?

Sorry, I didn't see this post.

pro·mis·cu·ous (pr-msky-s)
adj.
1. Having casual sexual relations frequently with different partners; indiscriminate in the choice of sexual partners.
2. Lacking standards of selection; indiscriminate.
3. Casual; random.
4. Consisting of diverse, unrelated parts or individuals; confused

promiscuity is the act of being promiscuous

Cop out.

What are the exact standards? Who sets them, and on what authority?

Give me numbers backed by logic.

I'd suppose that standards are relative and set by the average behavior within a society. I mean, if you look at the orgies held in the past by wealthy ancient Romans...was that normal behavior, was it praiseworthy, was it promiscuous, right or wrong?

I reject such classifications for precisely that reason.

Seems to me that "promiscuous" is just code for "more than I like." Or, in all too many cases, "more than I get."

I agree, and I prefer not to judge others based on their sexual behavior; but I'd also like others not to judge me for my unwillingness to clap my hands and rejoice at their numerous sexual conquests.

Has that actually happened?

Now, sexual attitudes like "conquest" are another matter. ;)

Yes. Not by people here, but in life I've run across those that judge me for my lack of sexual appetite. I would say that the "conquest" attitude falls well within the range of promiscuous behavior.
