Is Sponge-Bob Square Pants a 'gay' symbol?

It's a fair question. The confusion comes of using words without thinking about what they mean. Though this is the second time today I've been called an agent of Satan, once by an Evangelical and once by a LDS!

Now that's what I call confusing!:D

No, sir, the confusion results from the sloppy use of language.

God loves everyone: Gays, Evangelicals, LDS.

In addition, a single gay, evangelical, or lds does not represent the whole.

Well, just read his other posts and if there are those who think it's a part of some type of movement, then there must be something they saw in the SpongeBob writings that caught their attention..

Terms like "diversity" among families would be something that would suggest same sex parenting as acceptable or appropriate and part of their "hidden" agenda..

I think if we researched this more thoroughly/closely we would find that the writers behind this character have a very cleverly "hidden" agenda.

yep, if we look close enough we can make ourselves find an agenda in pretty much anything.

Christians issue gay warning on SpongeBob video

"The nonprofit We Are Family Foundation -- says the video is designed to encourage tolerance and diversity."

"A short step beneath the surface reveals that one of the differences being celebrated is homosexuality," wrote Ed Vitagliano in an article for the American Family Association."

I know. I just think it's funny.

Agreed.

I actually thought your post about how something could become normal if it wasn't previously abnormal was insightful for those paying attention.

On Sesame Street they slept in separate beds, oh wait so did Rob and Laura Petrie (the Dick Van Dyke Show) and Wilbur and Carol Post (Mister Ed). Never mind.

So what you're saying is that Spongebob and Homestarrunner are in league with the devil.
I get sick feelings when I look at the image of SpongeBob, and that was before I knew the artist's agenda, behind the character. Now I know why I've had those feelings, because there is definitely a person/artist/writer behind the image who does not share my values...

Like I said before, I'm sitting here at a desk with a SpongeBob mousepad that I would love to throw out, but don't dare...

I would have to spend the 20 bucks out of my own pocket and buy an optical mouse in order to convince, whosever's mousepad this is, to get rid of it.

It looks cluttery...I hate clutter...everything has to be plain for me, including my mouse pads ;) , which I don't own, but used to when there were no other options...

I hate non-optical mice (or whatever they're called)....;) but I'm not in any way a non-optical mice bigot, just a non-optical mice hater...;)

Hate cleaning the lint out of these things, which no one seems to want to take the time to do, they just let it go until it practically does not even work, then they half clean it and it still does not work right so I have to keep cleaning it...

Ar we not in an era where we don't need this sort of thing in our lives...;)

We still have seen what this supposed 'agenda' is, could you be a little more clear about it. It is a cartoon show, which could mean a million different things to a million different people. You see 'agendas' where you want them to be. In fact, I think many people (who claim there are 'agendas') here would see an agenda with Jesus Christ if they lived during His days on this earth.

If only bigotry were not the norm.
You assume I'm a bigot, but you don't know me...

I've had several male and female homosexuals "approach" me, and of course I turned them down, but we are still friends...

I don't hate anyone, because it really makes no difference to me how one believes, because it really does not affect me in the least, unless someone believes they shoud take all I have and leave me destitute, then I have a problem with that, but even then I've had people take lots of things from me and I still don't hate them....

Nothing anyone can do to me will make me hate them...

I hate their behavior and it makes me mad, but there is nothing I can do but pray for them, and it always seems to work...

But in the case of someone who has abused my kindness to no end, then I draw the line and offer a different prayer, but it takes years for me to get to that point....

Ask me how I really feel about gay and lesbians and you would be surprised at how I feel..

I have lesbian friends, not so much guys, because they get too close, and I've been in dangerous situations, where I needed to get away from certain individuals, but as long as they respect me and do not force themselves on me, which a few have wanted to do and I've had to call out to God for help, because I knew I was in a dangerous situation....

I've been in two dangerous gay situations in which I could have been in serious trouble, not knowing the person was gay or his intentions....

Sex is s strong motivator and causes people to do things they would not normally do...

I feel much safer, of course, with lesbians than with gays...and they know they can trust me as well...

So I generally respect lesbians more than gays, because of the past experiences with both. Although I've been propositioned by a lesbian, it was only done discretely and respectfully...

Could you quote me saying that please ??? Otherwise please refrain from false accusations...

Yeah, when people twist things around...
No, sir, the confusion results from the sloppy use of language.
Excuses don't cut it in a forum...

Think before you speak/write it down, othewise you'll unknowingly be influenced by the "author of confusion"...

I won't accept sloppy unthought out responses..

i'm sorry you've been in such situations FFH, but surely that is a character flaw in them as individual Christians, not a flaw with male homosexuals? it's just the same as me saying i'm wary of all Christians because some have used a very tactless, brutal and nigh on forceful tactics for proselytising. surely that is the individuals fault, not a fault with Christianity?

anyway, this thread topic is not a debate on the rights and wrongs and personal flaws of homosexuals, but rather, is sponge bob square-pants a gay icon? i have only ever watched about 2 episodes and not liked it, the cartoon just seems stupid to me, but i don't think it will have any secret agenda to it.

so the debate, if you think there is a pro-gay hidden agenda behind this cartoon, where are you getting this notion from?

I've already provided several links to statements made on both sides of this issue, by just doing a simple search, to get at the heart of this matter, brought up by Becky....

I'll provide a better link, just had very little time before I went to work and am now just heading home, so will provide a better link/statement from the creators/writers.

Really tho I'd rather just stay out of this thread because really I could care less what people do with their lives...

Edit: But people need to be aware of what's being pushed onto their kids in schools and at home, via the various medias...

Just as a non-Christian would want to know what Christian values were being pushed onto their kids...

Ignorance is not bliss...

You're basically calling God, Christ and all Christians, who believe homosexuality to be wrong, bigots...

Extremely hateful word...
Ok, since JC's PR guy couldn't be here in person, i thought i'd take it upon myself to point out that Jesus Christ never actually condemned homosexuality in any of his teachings.

*Also note that any opinions expressed by St. Paul and other individuals are theirs alone, and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of Jesus Christ Industries or its parent corporation.

i agree, i just don't understand how the message of "be nice to others even if they are different to you" is a bad message to be giving our children. that's the only message that sponge bob seems to be spreading, so how is that bad?

Because some paranoid heterosexuals think that by tolerating and accepting homosexuals and treating them with the dignity they deserve as human beings instead of like dirt, somehow people will start "turning gay," as if homosexuality is like the flu.

I really think the paranoia that I see in many heterosexuals is quite pathetic.

I'm gay.

I'm not interested in forcing straight people to "become gay."

I'm not trying to "recruit" children in our public schools.

I am not trying to prevent you from practicing your archaic religion.

I have no other agenda than to be treated as an equal under law and to be left alone instead of facing bigotry and ignorance.

All my gay and lesbian friends feel the same way, so you can chill the hell out guys (there's no evil gay conspiracy; sorry to disappoint), and stop trying to make our lives more difficult with your anti-gay agenda. ;)

Oh, I'm sure, you love homosexuals, just like you love everyone. You just judge their lifestyle, hate it, and condemn them to hell. (Or isn't it "I don't condemn them, God does"? In which case, leave it up to God.) You mistrust them and think they have an agenda to "corrupt" children through shows like Spongebob. But you're great friends other than all that, right?

I don't understand your version of love, and I'm pretty sure I don't want to. At any rate, we've come off topic and I'd rather not argue about this with you any further.
