Islam fights free speech

This is worth watching

Apologies if you have already watched it, but was Ben the one talking sense?

This is less heated, but far more informative

What does Sam Harris say that is not factual?

You can leave most religions

This article lists many recent instances of Western publishers and authors being threatened for criticizing Islam:

If Muslims want respect from non-Muslims, they have to stand openly and clearly against these sorts of attacks against modernity. I know, how about a new denomination of Islam that openly and clearly defines itself as a supporter of modern human rights and liberties?
Muslims are anti free speech because they don't talk. Or answer questions. But apparently they post questions. Its not like we are trying to kill them or something.
Say what you want to say just let the words fall out oh honestly I want to see you be free!!!!!

The bottom line is any book that creates incitement are banned by the so called modern World.
We in Islam do not have a problem with those banning.
So if the Quran created incitement somewhere by people who found the idea of Mohammed marrying a child offensive, would it then be justified to ban the Quran in that location?

Can you provide the verse in Quraan that states marrying of children is permissible?

No, I can't. So are you saying that Mohammed sinned by marrying Aisha? That's not something I've ever heard a Muslim say before. Regardless, if a group of people found something about the Quran offensive enough to be incited over, is that enough for a ban? If not, then why should other books or comments which cause incitement be banned?

I find the whole Qur'an offensive because it denies the divinity of Christ, denies the Trinity and calls Jews and Christians the worst of creatures.

Needless to say, I can't ban the Qur'an and don't really want to. It's much better just to let stupidity speak for itself. When a book is banned is when folks want to read it.

Note i did not say anything. Its your suggestion to ban the Quraan but you are ignorant of its contents.
Further are you aware that there are thousands of books that are banned in many countries because it leads to incitement?
My point is why the double standards.

I don't want the Quran to be banned at all. I'm just using your own line of reasoning that a book should be banned if it causes incitement. So if the Quran caused incitement, would that be grounds for banning? If not, then why ban any other book? I'm also still curious about your position on whether Mohammed sinned by marrying Aisha or not.

I believe that anyone should be allowed to express any opinion they have on any subject without fearing for their own safety. I don't believe something being offensive is sufficient grounds on its own to ban it altogether, whatever that thing may be.

Hey farouk,

On this forum there are lots of non-Muslims who have studied Islam in detail. Some of us have read several translations of the Quran cover to cover.

You seem to be in the habit of calling people ignorant. I find that offensive. Perhaps we should ban you? ;)

It's because religions like Islam cannot stand up against unbiased rational scrutiny. That's why I personally view most religions as detrimental to humanity. For one, they encourage ignorance and stifle critical thinking.

My friend the question on the prophets marriage is not in question on this thread. If you go to past threads you will get all your answers answered.
Its through sheer ignorancy that you call a women a child.
Remember what you believe is not always right.
My question is why are books banned in many countries?
I have given you names of those books. Please read my postings on this thread and try to answer my simple question.

I want to echo Luis on this. When I read the Quran it strikes me that the "conservative form" you mention is the most in keeping with the Quran's many instructions. Don't get me wrong, I'm heartened whenever I talk to a Muslim that's not "conservative" as you say, but my sense is that it's you guys that are in the minority.

So, for you, Islam is what the Qur'an says?

Well habla Akbar! Thanks for talking to me. I haven't read the book. I really need pointer facts for conspiracies. Of course as such you cant call it a conspiracy, if it is a conspiracy, then they call it knowledge and because they called it knowledge, they get upset your looking into it.
But whatever you have to say about it likes or not. I'll always talk with a grain of salt, I usually take most things with a grain of salt anyways (not always)
but it wouldn't be unwelcome hear why you ask.
Anyways I could post quit a bit about the time worshipping slavery. If that's what you mean?
