Maybe not an attack but very clearly took a statement that Jews say daily and got from it that Muslims aren't following monotheism.

That was a huge jump.

When a Muslim says the Shahada they cannot think of following another religion even one that is monotheistic.

When a Jew says the Sh'ma we cannot think of following another religion in this case Islam.

But I do wonder how one can read the Sh'ma and then think maybe that person was insinuating that Islam is not monotheistic.

If the shoe were on the other foot and I said why can't a Muslim just be Jewish and you stated what the Shahada says.

I would understand that to be Muslim means to believe in G-d and accept Muhammad as his prophet.

It would be clear to me.

And again, the shema is not exactly well known amongst non-jews. One would need to know that it is recited along morning prayers and night prayers to know how it is akin to the shahada. Do you really expect one to know fully the implications of reciting the shema to be as a non jew? Knowledge of such is very limited outside of the Jewish community and only ones who may know are ones who seriously looked up Jewish beliefs.

Really, it all a big misunderstanding. It happens.

And there is none comparable unto Him.

In a thread as giving a reason why not to follow Christianity what would the Christians think?

Why I'm not muslim ? Let's take a look:

- I didn't even knew Islam existed before the whole Jihad and terrorism thing bursted up...So I've had a very, very bad view of Islam. "these guys want to kill me, what did I do to them ?! They are unfair and creepy !"

i totally agree with you about some Muslims cause a bad reputation for islam and they are thinking they are serving the Islam plus for sure the international media but indeed i consider it from A to Z as Muslims fault, i don't like the way of blaming media for everything while indeed we did nothing to introduce the reality of what we believe in, so i strongly agree with yu

indeed yes, it's our final target "the God" to be grateful to him not to another wrong god

just wanted to start a thread about Islam. the basics for our brothers and sister who dont know. also to clear any misconceptions.

I am glad that you started this thread. I find it refreshing that you would desire to educate people about Islam and provide a Muslim perspective on current events and other topics.

also ask yourself the question, why arent you a muslim? what is it that keeps you from being a muslim?

The same reason I am not a Christian: it's impossible to convince me that I am loved by an omnipotent, omniscient, transcendent, and perfectly loving deity.

i think you are making some rude assertions about scriptures of other religions here, jainism and sikhism for example.... well, this is not the place to prove anything.

I will say that other translations besides Yusuf Ali's have been blaaaaaand.

Arabic, being of a completely different linguistic branch than English, clearly does not translate well into the latter.

i wonder why even arabic speaking people cant understand arabic well, just look at the laws in their countries... laws on adultery, homosexuality, blasphemy, tax on non-muslims etc ..

It's my experience. I've never come across a holy book that was absolutely 100% free of ugliness.

The one that came the closest was the Tirukkural(though, admittedly, I never finished it).

Seconded. The reason I reject what is often considered "orthodox" Islam and "orthodox" Christianity is the notion they hold that non-believers will spend an eternity in hell, simply for believing in another religion. This doesn't sound like a very compassionate and merciful God to me.

There are different interpretations of people on this issue.

I've never come across an interpretation that would see a Hindu or pagan or atheist saved except if they never heard of the Abrahamic religions. Doesn't the Quran say the worst sin is to worship someone besides Allah?

i don't like to make up my belief, just saying the truth as i believed

maybe there's some interpretion as he mentioned but i don't know them, i just tells you as per my few knowledge

Hmm well some scholars that i know belief if people reject the truth or are to "Lazy"" to search for the truth they will go to hell. For example a Native Indian prior to the establishment of America would never heard of Monotheism or Islam in there understanding they will be judged according to there actions and sincerity instead of belief.

In the end all i can say is Allah(swt) knows best.
