A ground offensive would be horrible...

And I gotta say, Hamas won't stop the rocket attacks before ensuring that Israel would stop the blockading of the strip...And Israel won't stop the blockading of the strip because they believe Hamas smuggle weopons through the borders crossing...So Israel wants to eliminate Hamas, and this would never happen!..

So, the loop would continue...

I say, Hamas should accept the existance of Israel, and Israel should accept the existance of Hamas as the legal elected government of Palestine...

i realy couldn't care less what those peeps do there they lost my respect years ago, to me the news is just as important as how many ants are in my backjard

A fire that has the potential to incinerate this entire planet, and you see it as being of less imporatance to you, as to how many ants are in your backyard. Ah, we need more people like you in the world, and I mean it. if no one interferes in their conflict and let them sort it out themselves it will be over and done with, but they wont, every nation on the earth is gonna stick their nose into this conflict. But, if they don't, then the Omega who is the end result of this cycle of universal activity, has been lying to us.

...

that would be a likely scenario except hamas would have to renounce violence and become a political party rather than a paramilitary outfit, one other problem is i dont think Hamas speaks for all the paramilitary units in Gaza

Why are they launching the rockets in the first place, you didn't wonder?
That was a remarkably stupid and condescending statement.

The fact of the matter is that terrorism escalates precisely when hope - anathema to Hamas/Hizbullah - appears on the horizon. The context for this escalation was
  • an intensifying schism between Egypt/Jordan and the terrorist forces aligned with Tehran,
  • evolving negotiations between Israel and Syria,
  • the geo-political impact of a drop in oil prices,
  • the upcoming Israeli elections, and
  • the soon to be installed Obama/Clinton administration.
Hamas relies on crisis and misery and folks like you who promote and otherwise enable both.

Parenthetically, while Hamas and those like them relish attacks on the innocent and rejoice in the effects of terrorism, this is how anti-terrorists operate ...

IDF calling Gaza civilians to warn them of imminent bombings

By The Associated Press and Haaretz Service

The Israel Defense Forces has unveiled a new tactic meant to reduce civilian casualties, calling houses before they are to be targeted in order to give inhabitants time to flee the attack.

Palestinians reported that in some cases, the caller leaves a message on their voice mail warning that the IDF will bomb any house where weapons are rockets are found and the owners of the houses will be the ones to suffer the consequences.

The IDF has also used a sound bomb to warn civilians before striking homes. The IDF has also used what they are calling "roof knocking" operations, in which they inform the residents of suspected buildings that they have 10 minutes to leave the premises. In some cases, residents of suspected houses have been able to prevent bombing by climbing up to the roof to show that they will not leave, prompting IDF commanders to call off the strike. In these cases, Channel 10 reported Thursday, the IAF sometimes launches a relatively harmless missile at the corner of the roof, avoiding casualties but successfully dispersing the crowd.

It appears that the "roof knocking" technique was used in the assassination of Hamas leader Nizar Ghayan Thursday, but Ghayan decided to stay indoors with his family, and the army opted to bomb the house anyway.

Sources familiar with Ghayan's record said he was one of the people who encouraged Gazans to climb on rooftops to prevent bombings.

During the Second Lebanon War, the Israel Air Force dropped pamphlets from the sky and called residents of several Lebanese towns to tell them they were about to begin bombing the area south of the Latani River and they should evacuate the area for their own safety.
It's a distinction that speaks volumes.

What the hell are you talking about?!!
And what hope do you mean?!..

First of all, it's not a healthy debate when you describe another point of view as "remarkably stupid"...

Secondly, the context you mentioned absolutly doesnt have anything to do with the rocket attacks!!....And Hamas isn'tthat smart to analyze the political situation this way while they are suffering from blockading their lands!

"Hamas has held the people of Gaza hostage ever since their illegal coup against the forces of (Palestinian Authority) President Mahmoud Abbas," she said. Rice also charged that Hamas "has used Gaza as a launching pad" for firing rockets into the Jewish state and that, as a result, the Palestinians living in Gaza have had "a very bad daily life."

Hamas is holding Palestinian hostage?...wow...silliest lie i'd ever heard in years. are there people in USA who would believe that?

I dont know..I just posted the news..In case anyone was interested. What about the rest of it?..The cease fire?..the U.S "advising" the Irealites to use every method to avoid /minimize civilian fatalities?

I did think it was interesting they didnt want to make a comment on any impending ground invasion.

Thats what I think. And as resciliant as they are..I think the Gazan's will be the losers. And I think the problem is ..the Hama's leader has said what he his dream is a giant map of Palestine hanging on his wall in his home..without the word Isreal on it anywhere. With an attitude like that I dont see any wiggle room to negotiate. :(

Wow!...Holding people in Gaza hostage??!:areyoucra

There is a fact many dont realize, that most of Gaza people are Hamas!..
Another fact is that people there support Hamas to the extreme....No way Hamas is forcing people there on anything!

I think the same,Hamas are Palestine unfortunately,i'm so glad they are not my neighbours.

I dont know..talk to Condoleezza Rice..She's the one that said it not me.I would think we would be getting reports of citizens saying they wanted out of there but Hama's was holding them.Of course my understanding is journalist are being restricted access now.

But if there is little or no truth to what she said..Its extremely irresponsible for her to claim that.I was sort of perplexed..because I've seen no one else report that.

Well, to be more objective...Hamas was generious too many times with offers given to Israel, but always faced Israeli rejection..
As a matter of fact, Hamas's vision right now is to try establishing a palestinian state in the 1967 occupied area....And nothing "officially" more..

Mashal declared several times that Hamas is ready to stop the struggle against Israel in case israel recognized palestenian's "right to return" and withdraw from all palestenian occupied terretories...

Hamas offered a 10 years Hudna (ceasefire) with Israel, that should allow Israel to return back to 1967 borders and allow the establishment of an independant state of palestine, as well as the returning back the refugees...Israel didnt respond yet...

Before firing those rockets, Hamas announced that Israel had ended up the ceasefire by not respecting its terms...Israel hasn't responded to Hamas's requests of ending the blockading of the strip...And it was a normal response of Hamas to start the fighting again to force Israel returning back to the deal...On 24 December, Hamas also issued a statment that they would accept renewing the ceasfire, only if Israel respected the terms...No response from Israel...
Hamas kept firing rockets the following days, until Israel began operation Cast Lead (which was prepared on August 2008)...

Obviously, Israel was planning for the operation whether Hamas ended up the ceasfire or not...And accordingly, Israel was obviously trying to show the world that it was Hamas that ended up the ceasefire...

I don't really know how did she say so...
How would people leave the strip anyway under the siege!

no, it is very likely for Rice to say that. ever since Israeli attack has started, they keep saying Hamas is responsible for deaths in Gaza. it is irresponsible for Israel to say people that Israeli army killed are dead now because of Hamas. seems like Rice is trying to help Israel by making Gazan people look like victims of Hamas.

Of course to be 'objective', the Hamas charter explicitly calls for a Palestnian state on the entire area of the state of Israel, the Hamas charter also explicitly calls for the obliteration of Israel.
do this very short search and read the charter on line.

Well then Wikipedia is lying..about what their goals are..here is a quote.

Hamas, unlike the Fatah, refused to accept Israel's existence. Its charter calls for an end to Israel, though during the 2006 election campaign, Hamas did not mention its call for the destruction of Israel in its electoral manifesto.[37] On 25 January 2006, after winning the Palestinian elections, Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar gave an interview to Al-Manar TV denouncing foreign demands that Hamas recognize Israel's right to exist.[55] After the establishment of Hamas government, Dr Al-Zahar stated his "dreams of hanging a huge map of the world on the wall at my Gaza home which does not show Israel on it...I hope that our dream to have our independent state on all historic Palestine (including Israel). This dream will become real one day. I'm certain of this because there is no place for the state of Israel on this land". He also "didn't rule out the possibility of having Jews, Muslims and Christians living under the sovereignty of an Islamic state, adding that the Palestinians never hated the Jews and that only the Israeli occupation was their enemy".[56]
