Aye, and Franco made the trains run on time.

The fascists allied your country with the ****ing Nazis. Hunted Jews down and transported them to concentration camps. Murdered actual socialists.

I've no idea what the incompatibility of fascism and socialism has to do with the US Democratic party.

I'd suggest not interfering in the lives of others. A conservative should be able to see the value in freedom of others to make their own choices regarding their own bodies and marital status.

How about, not spreading prejudice about immigrants?

Supporting freedom of religion as opposed to demonising Muslims and calling for them to be banned from entering the country. Etc.

You do make a point though. The sort of stuff that was previously only supported publicly by the National Front is common among people calling themselves conservatives.
You mean ideas most folks supported until yesterday? The idea the marriage is between a man and a woman, that there are 2 sexes, that sometimes cultures are incompatible? These were all mainstream for the past millennia.

I don't know where you're getting all the misinformation, but here in America, Wall Street and the banks are mostly run by Republicans, very few Democrats there

We don't live in past millennia, though, and even then, not all cultures were homophobic or identified only two genders. Much of the present-day opposition to same-sex marriage is rooted in fundamentalist Abrahamic dogma, and imposing that on all of society is explicitly theocratic.

Almost all the Democrats want universal health care, problem is they need 60 votes in the Senate and not one Republican will vote for it

What about the single blue states? California for example.
It has the GDP and the resources to make a local universal healthcare system.

By the way, the dems have the power.

She is absolutely inclusive.
And she has always pointed out that ours is a secular state, so she is against any kind of discrimination.
She has pointed out that she will never touch the gay marriage (actually it is civil unions, but the juridical structure is identical). It is just that gay couples cannot become parents naturally, so she doesn't think gay parenthood is a good idea.
Does she feel the same way about straight couples that can't "become parents naturally?" Or does she just pick on gay people?

Of course not. Just gay people.
If you ask me, I think adoption should be a right, regardless of the family.
But of course, we are speaking of the president of European Conservatives, I guess she is supposed to represent all conservatives' stances.

Riiiight. So she holds an illogical position on that. Which kind of reveals that she's coming from a place of bigotry, don't you think?

The last PM was a former banker whose surname means dragons.

I think that a traditionally Catholic people as Italians are, has rightfully voted for a person born in a humble family, and who speaks against the elites.

Congratulations to Italy and the Italians!

I'm very pleased by the election of the conservative coalition and the rise of Georgia Meloni to Prime Minister!

Nobody likes dragons, especially what they stand for.
A humble peasant that want to give the wealthy elites a huge tax break they don't deserve, that sounds about as corrupt as they come

Far-right leader Giorgia Meloni has won Italy's election, according to exit polls, and is on course to become the country's first female prime minister.

A Meloni-led Italy will alarm much of Europe with Russia at war in Ukraine.
..she leads a party rooted in a post-war movement that rose out of Benito Mussolini's fascists.

I wonder what the Pope makes of it all. :(

Shame really, but like “what has the right wing ever done for us”,It shouldn’t take long to list their successes on a postage stamp but teems of A4 for the failures IMO.

Not the wealthy elites. Just the small entrepreneurship. Our civil code distinguishes between small entrepreneurship and big corporations.
The first are much more protected by the State, so she will do nothing new or particularly resounding.

Um okay. Not sure how that addresses my point. I'm not talking about the last PM. I'm talking about this one, her illogical views on gay parenting and the bigotry contained therein.

I mean, that "they" are sending "us" their "worst". That immigrants are harming us and refuse to participate in society beyond creating ghettos.

I'm fine with whatever views you have about marriage, weird as they seem to me, but I don't think it is reasonable to demand other people are refused their own marital arrangement because you don't like it. You can't impose your preferences on others and hide it behind the label, "social conservative".

The idea of marriage for millenia was that women were possessions of their husbands, who were free to beat, rape and even murder them with little to no risk of punisment. If your husband suggested that they should have the right to smack you around because they put a ring on it, would you accept their right to do so because they are socially conservative?

Anyway I can't believe the amount of people calling Meloni a fascist.

Controversies:
Meloni has expressed statements that generated controversy.[124][125] She praised Italian dictator Benito Mussolini as "a good politician, the best in the last 50 years" in an interview to the French newscast Soir 3 in 1996.[126][127] In May 2020, she praised Giorgio Almirante, the co-founder of the Italian Social Movement (MSI),[128][129] who was a Nazi collaborator and editor-in-chief of the antisemitic and racist magazine La Difesa della Razza,[91][130] which published the "Manifesto of Race" in 1938.[131] In December 2020, the independent journalistic TV program Report revealed through an investigative report that her party "has reached the negative record of arrests for mafia group 'Ndrangheta",[132] and also having among her ranks Mussolini's descendants,[133] as well as fascist nostalgics,[134][135][136] according to a 2021 investigative report by Fanpage.[137][138] In November 2018, Meloni declared that the celebration of the Liberation Day, also known as the Anniversary of Italy's Liberation from Nazi-Fascism on 25 April, and Festa della Repubblica, which celebrates the birth of the Italian Republic on 2 June, should be substituted with the National Unity and Armed Forces Day on 4 November, which commemorates Italy's victory in World War I. She said that Liberation Day and Festa della Repubblica are "two controversial celebrations".[139] She has tried to distance herself from her close ties to Roberto Jonghi Lavarini,[140] a far-right Milanese politician and entrepreneur known as the "Black Barron".[141][142][143] -- Giorgia Meloni - Wikipedia
