That's the point... why do they have to "force" people to use certain pronouns to have a conversation... Could you imagine if I said to you, "SkepticeThinker, if you are going to write me or talk to me please refer me as "Jesus, you are my Lord and Savior" - because that's who I believe is my name and that is what I identify with.
Well, that's a title and not a pronoun, for starters.

MY point was that it's just common courtesy in a civil society to refer to someone as they present themselves to you. Why do we now have to "force" people to be courteous and respectful to others? It sounds very ego-centric to me to declare that you're being "forced" to be courteous and respectful to other human beings just by calling them what they've asked to be called.

I think that is the point that people are dealing with. They have gotten tired of the silliness behind the effort. The school is suppose to give an education... not submit to a seesaw of "what I feel like I am today" situation. It is just plain silly,.
Sorry, where's the "silliness?"

The "silliness" seems to only exist in the way people who are opposed to all this attempt to frame it.

There is no "what I feel like I am today." Is that the "silliness" you're referring to?

I'm so much into forcing people that when I was full of denial when I worked at a gas station that I was infuriated when a customer asked "what about that girl that over there" and was referring to me.

Not at all... I am in no way saying that we shouldn't be courteous. If it seems like I am advocating not being courteous and respectful... please forgive me.

Having teachers go through the extra hoop of "who you are today" is silly. Why don't we just go by last names?

Is it a daily thing?
Schools are about much more than "giving an education."
In the UK, students are referred to by their preferred (maybe shortened) first name.

Depends from state to state. I think they breakdown of family has to do with much of the problems of today. In our country, it is enough work as it is just to give an education. Even with just that, a few teachers have been violently assaulted for given a grade they deserved.

In my last 10 years of teaching, I spent a great deal of time trying to help parents deal with their teen that was underachieving and often along with other problems. So many of them were desperate and were at wit's end. However, I had to be very careful what I said for obvious reasons. So, best for me to listen and throw out possible strategies without endorsing any of them.

Children do not come with "owner's manuals".

And you think that's what's going on in classrooms? Every day teachers are asking kids who they are today? Is that what you think transgenderism is?
I think you need to get off the far right-wing social media sites.

What's the connection between "who are you today" and "the breakdown of family?"

Do you think trans-activism is not damaging our society? Or perhaps you think there is an acceptable amount of damage?

Not denying your value or the value of teachers... "when" - they match accepted values. With the breakdown of family, values are now fluctuating to where you now have teachers promoting identity with the expressed mandate of not including parents... what do you do with that?

I don't see anything to respond here... too broad and too irrelevant to wha we are talking about IMV

As I see it, and you don't have to agree as I stated that it was my view, you break down the family and you have loss of identity, exponential psychological issues, more stress and therefore more depression et al... the list is extensive IMV

In the more ambiguous cases, I might feel empathy for the individual and think, "Good god, what happened to you?"
Serious question: Is nothing "off-putting" these days? Have we entered the era of "anything goes"?
There are a lot of things I find off putting, but other people's liberty shouldn't be dictated by my feelings. Also, is "anything goes" not the essence of liberty?
Besides, what if someone considered your identity, nature, behavior, etc. to be "off-putting" by their standards? Would you be obligated to change yourself in order to satisfy them?

google it. How many teachers fired because they didn't want to be forced? How many people submitted lawsuits?
Jobs have professional standards and requirements. If a vegan got a job at McDonalds and refused to handle or serve any meat projects, would it be unfair to fire them because they didn't want to be "forced" to do what they were paid to do? If your beliefs make it too challenging to humor someone for courtesy's sake, then go find another job.

Superstition and voodoo shouldn't permit teachers to treat students like ****.

No, I don't.

Care to answer my questions?

I jumped in when you were asking about what's going on in classrooms, correct?

My answer is that that's whats happening in classrooms sometimes. I don't think it should EVER be happening.
