I doubt the USA is the best example of what you are talking about simply because lots of other things about us are unique. We had televisions early on, for example. We recently underwent integration of a subjugated population, in which respect we are like South Africa. The intuition you have seems shaky. Have you considered the effects of human trafficking, pornography and a past of institutional segregation? It doesn't sound like it, and instead it sounds like you are mistaking correlation for causation.
And none of that saves religion from its ongoing legacy of sexual repression and ignorance. You're welcome to challenge the data provided. Perhaps without these Strawmen....

We share a mutual hatred of sex crimes, and I don't want religion to cause anyone to suffer, either. We share this in common. When religion causes problems I'd like to acknowledge it. I acknowledge these things, and it affects my pay not at all nor my position in society.

I can see there are sex crimes and that there is religious suppression of sex but cannot see the causation you intuit based on the paper you link to. Looking at the data you have given upon request: its about sex crimes vs. human development index not vs religion. The conclusion begins by saying "This study highlights the rate of worldwide SV prevalence and concludes it to be highly heterogeneous. This may be due to the definitions and tools used, and more importantly, due to the culture and norms." If they are not able to stay clearly that religious suppression of sex results in sex crimes, then by what means are you saying it is so plain and obvious?

The correlation between negative human development and religion is clear. It's why Christianity is losing members in every industrialized nation that values education and only gaining members in 3rd world countries barely removed from Voodoo and sacrificing chickens.

Wow, that's a lot of snobby bigotry in one post. Hatred of religion and veiled racism. Way to go. I bet you could hardly restrain yourself from saying "primitives" or "savages"...

You like to whine and ignore facts that hurt your feelings. I get it. And finding racism where none exists is exactly what racists do. Show us on the doll where the secularist hurt you.....

You have yet to present any facts to prove what you're claiming, you're just ranting and raving about Christians and being insulting. Poor @Brickjectivity even tried to have a sober debate with you, but you failed to prove that America's sex crimes have something to do with religion. Then you just went back to bigoted ranting.

Yes, there's certainly no hint of racism in this sentence:
"It's why Christianity is losing members in every industrialized nation that values education and only gaining members in 3rd world countries barely removed from Voodoo and sacrificing chickens."

You're relying on stupid and disrespectful stereotypes. Vodoun/Voodoo is the indigenous religion/folkway of West African people and you just insulted it like they're stupid people compared to Westerners.

So in your bigoted world view, only a certain race ever practiced voodoo. It's clear who the racist is here. I'm sorry the facts presented eluded you.

I have to say that I don't see bigotry in @Saint Frankenstein's comment about Vodou or Africans; I only saw pushback on a specific comment about third-world countries and people who practice the religion there. As an African, I appreciate it when people oppose normalization of such generalized denigration of other countries and cultures. Reasonable points can be made without the usage of that.

The problem is that so many people have a black and white vision whenever they debate.
Either Peterson is 100& wrong, or he is 100% right.

And then there is me, who agrees with Peterson on many things (let's say 60%) and disagrees with him on the rest.
For example, I think contraception made sex more selective and fought promiscuity.

To burst your ethnocentric/racist bubble, America is big and huge into self help garbage and pseudoscience junk. Like the Myers-Briggs test. It has poor validity, results that lack consistency, it is entirely junk and without scientific or clinical merit but ask around. Lots of people will know their types (despite the fact it varies from day to day with this test) just as readily as they know their astrological sign. Amd in this country very far removed from Voodoo and sacrificing chickens such things have basically been replacing Christianity over the past couple of decades when about 20 years ago the first wave od teens and young adults began the trend of people abandoning it (especially Evangelical denominations) that we see still ongoing today and encompassing multiple generations. They're turning off Moody Radio and picking up Llewellyn published books.

I'm surprised that when Peterson said that the reworking of the old sexual values is coming from the far left, and was puzzled about the emphasis on consent ("in writing" to add a bit of flourish,) he never made the connection between the formal marriage vows and the new "formal consent" as a reworking of the old sexual value of marriage vows. (Marriage is not a license to force sex on your partner.)

I'm not. After all, he is the man who told Sam Harris, to his face, "you live your life as though you believe god is real." I don't think anyone can rightly fault Harris for asking Petterson to repeat himself and chucking as he reohrased it in disbelief over what he just heard.

Consent is a given in the 21st century because so many people nowadays date before having sex.
Sometimes dating can last weeks or months.
So I disagree with Peterson who thinks that young people nowadays have sex at random, before knowing the person properly.

I 'insult' the superstition of voodoo and the ignorance it is based on. Just like Christians do.... The only people who would see my insult as based on race would be those who think the ignorance of voodoo is BECAUSE of race - a position I never made. THAT connection between race and religion was made by little Franky. I also denigrate Trumpers - primarily made up of uneducated Christian males..... who are also white. OMG, reporting that fact must make me racist.....

You're welcome to live in the bubble of belief that people are leaving Christianity for 'garbage'. The people I know left it for the superiority of secular morality. They actually realized that following a god whose 'moral' solution to kids teasing a bald man was to have them slaughtered by bears - was best left to the ignorant barbarians that wrote it. Others left it after actually studying the bible and realizing that Jesus could not be the Messiah based on the OT and Jewish eschatology that puts the lie to that claim by the gospel authors. We don't have the time or bandwidth to cover all of the moral shortcomings of Christianity. We should perhaps just stick to the subject of how religious sexual mores facilitate the bigotry heaped upon gay and trans people - and perhaps consider how Christian 'morals' regarding proper sexual relations and the evils of divorce and premarital sex have not served to make them any more moral than any other group - since they violate these morals every day.

And yet that doesn't reflect society at large.
