To them it is. They treat political parties like sports teams. It's not about upholding principles, concern for the well being of innocent children, etc. but rather a "win" for the "team".
Meh, I think we are all guilty. It is a good reminder for everyone. Not me though. My arguments are perfect in every way.

Indeed. The media really should be doing more to show the lighter side of concentration camps.
I just love how extreme terms are used by people. Like there's some shock value to it.

Explains the media and the extreme leaning of lefties all too well.

Extreme & histrionic characterizations are useful.
Without them, people might have to admit merit
in the other side's approach to real issues.

I don’t see it as sensationalism. It’s just accurate terminology.

“Concentration camp, internment centre for political prisoners and members of national or minority groups who are confined for reasons of state security, exploitation, or punishment, usually by executive decree or military order.” Britannica.com

I hear the Trump administration has a huge order in for gas ovens...just sayin'.

I think most people that I know of, tend to view the word, "concentration camp" with stark and graphic images of starvation, torture, genocide, forced labor, medical experimentation involving vivisection... Those kind of things.

All that’s not in the definition.

You are conflating concentration camps with extermination/death camps.

“The Nazis distinguished between extermination and concentration camps, although the terms extermination camp (Vernichtungslager) and death camp (Todeslager) were interchangeable, each referring to camps whose primary function was genocide.”
Extermination camp - Wikipedia

That might be true but I'm willing to bet most people would still associate the latter. I think the left knows that and uses it anyways knowing full well the shock value it has.

Here's the trick.
Many alternatives exist for a particular word/phrase, eg,
"concentration camp" could be "prison", "jail", "reformatory",
"internment camp", "labor camp", "gulag".
Each word has its own connotations.
So under Obama, kids might be put in "detention centers",
but under Trump, kids are put in "concentration camps".
Both phrases have arguably applicable definitions in both cases,
but the impressions conveyed will greatly differ. It's a clever way
to use a word's emotional baggage to turn one thing into another.

One main difference being Obama used a system called “catch and release” highly criticized by Republicans, while Trump makes an executive order to detain families indefinitely and Sessions fights courts regarding a 97 ruling that there is a limit of how long to keep children. One is not like the other in regards to use of detainment strategies.

There are always reasons to rationalize selecting a term which spins
a description for partisan purpose.
But it's best (if we really want interesting discussion) to try to avoid it.

Just this month I've avoided annoying spin on 3 posts already!
It was difficult, but I managed.

The term “concentration camp” is an accurate description. The fact that it’s shocking comes from the thing itself, not the term used to describe it.

By all means: tell us about the merits of the Trump administration’s approach here. Explain the positive side of treating refugee claimants as criminals. Explain how it’s good to keep their kids caged in converted warehouses.

So? This actually was made clear the very next day on the telecasts I watched.

But the bigger point by far is what's going on in general and why, so all I see the OP doing is to conflate what should be the real issues that affect real people including real children. This should not be a political game because thousands of families are at stake, and implying that just because on picture may have been misleading, accidentally or intentionally, "misses the mark", which is the definition of the word "sin".

So, the OP is doing what maybe some have done with the picture, namely to make a politic game of this, thus obscuring the significance of the terrible situation we are now facing.

As soon as I saw your alert, my reaction was
"Oh, no....not this again....wanting to bicker over
something pointless again.". And lo, my point
was utterly deflected in toward that end.
I'll pass on that such uninteresting exchanges.
You need to tempt me with a new routine.

So you find the whole issue of how refugee claimants and their children have been treated lately to be “uninteresting”. Is that correct?
