Looks like Kennedy will suspend campaign, endorse Trump

Kennedy proving my point a year ago. No sane Democrat wants anything to do with his nuttery.
This reinforces my position that Kennedy is a nutjob who provides nothing of substance.
Good riddance, weirdo. Republicans and conservatives love that nutball s#it

Pity the strongest and most influential name with the Democrats are now vilified and minimalized.
Say what, the whole point was that the name is still respected but as the example of the tweet makes clear, those who are also of that name do not appreciate the association that he was implying.

It's disgusting how RFKjr has tainted the Kennedy legacy.
Some people will do anything for money.
The family should disown him

Not really. Other Kennedy's have run for office themselves. RFK Jr. has been an embarrassment to them.

Nonsense. Why don't you check your facts before accusing them of not running for office? Kathleen Kennedy herself, the name at the top of the announcement, is a politician.

It is expected that Kennedy will announce on Friday that he will suspend his campaign, and likely endorse Donald Trump. It seems there have been talks.

How do you think this will affect the election going forward? His support is somewhere between 5%-10%.

An interesting question. On the one hand, potential Kennedy voters leaned more towards Harris than towards Trump. but, on the other hand, that endorsement will push a lot of potential voters to Trump. But then again, Kennedy was a sort of safe vote for people who didn't like either Trump or Harris or didn't have a strong inclination.

Another thing we have to consider is Kennedy's speech endorsing Trump was really good (obvious speech impediment aside), and that Kennedy supporters probably aren't going to be turned off by that speech impediment; they want substance. The speech delivered substance and that's going to be very compelling. Kennedy put forward the key issues motvating his decision to run for President were also the key issues motivating his support of Trump: free speech, the Ukraine War, and the future of the nation's children.

Moreover, the fact that Trump has been willing to meet and talk about issues with Kennedy, whereas Harris has not been willing to meet and talk about issues with Kennedy is huge. It demonstrates that Trump is willing to find ground on which to unify the country, but that Kamala is not.

President Trump telephoned me a few minutes later, and I met with him the following day. A few weeks later, I met again with President Trump and his family members and close advisers in Florida. And in a series of long, intense discussions, I was surprised to discover that we are aligned on many key issues. And in those meetings he suggested that we join forces as a unity party.

We talked about Abraham Lincoln’s team of rivals. That arrangement would allow us to disagree publicly and privately and fiercely, if need be, on issues over which we differ, and also work together on the existential issues upon which we are in concordance. I was a ferocious critic of many of the policies during his first administration, and there are still issues and approaches upon which we continue to have very serious differences.

But we are aligned with each other on other key issues, like ending of forever wars, ending the childhood disease epidemics, securing the border, protecting freedom of speech, unraveling the corporate capture of our regulatory agencies, and getting the U.S. intelligence agencies out of the business of propagandizing and censoring and surveilling Americans and interfering with our elections. Following my first discussion with President Trump, I tried unsuccessfully to open similar discussions with Vice President Harris. Vice President Harris declined to meet or even to speak with me.

It's really huge to discover that Trump is willing to talk about important issues and Kamala isn't. Given this reality, Kennedy's endorsement comes across as the most natural outcome. How could Kennedy ever endorse someone who outright refuses to talk with him?:shrug:

It looks like not much can be done for it. It is a disease with a name but the causes of it are not understood. That makes treating it rather risky. He could very reasonably be afraid to lose what voice that he still has left. I do not like the man, but I do not blame him for not chasing after wild cures.

The vocal folds are controlled by different branches of the vagus nerve--the superior and inferior branches. The inferior one loops under the aorta in all mammals and is therefore longer than the superior branch. This becomes a real issue for giraffes, since there appears to be no feasible evolutionary path that would correct the messy asymmetry. In any case, to control phonation (voice), signals from the brain need to take into account the asymmetry in order to maintain a stable auditory phonation.

I don't know to what extent RFK's voice problem is caused by a disorder of the asymmetric structure, but it would be my guess that there is some anomaly in his brain that disrupts the coordination. He has certainly suffered from significant brain damage--e.g. the brain worm--so I doubt that there is anything that modern neuroscience can do to cure his problem in the foreseeable future.
