Man Who Was Shot Six Times Still Waiting for Surgery Due to the Overwhelming Number of COVID Cases

We Never Know

No Slack
Sure hospitals can turn people away if they're full. It already happened to a child with COVID

Baby girl with seizures airlifted 150 miles because of houston hospital bed shortage - CNN

Here's the deal. The man is in the hospital, he has a room and a bed. That means he has staff already looking after him.

Now unless someone can show ...
1. The surgeons and surgery teams are too busy working the floors taking care of covid patients
2. His shoulder surgery would require an ICU bed
3. The staff already taking care of him couldn't take care of him after surgery

Then its all just guesses and finger pointing.

One thing is for sure. If he is waiting over a week for surgery he isn’t a Congressman or part of the oligarchy.

People should get vaccinated.

As a noted in a different thread, the county I live in has had an increase in hospital admissions etc but much MUCH less than other places because of the high vaccination numbers.

People should get vaccinated.

Immediate solution.

The post you quoted asked for an immediate solution. Once you get every last person on earth vaxxed then what?

Deaths will just drop all of the sudden?

People should get vaccinated.

Everyone doesn't need to take the vaccine to achieve herd immunity.

Herd immunity (or community immunity) occurs when a high percentage of the community is immune to a disease (through vaccination and/or prior illness).
Herd immunity - APIC

So if 80% is needed for herd immunity, 60% vaccinated and 20% prior illness will be 80%.

I see a lot of assumptions being made here. There is no data here showing how many of the Covid cases had been vaccinated or unvaccinated. Some number will be breakthrough cases. Then there is the assumption that any unvaccinated were simply being being obdurate. This story is taking place where there are thousands of unvaccinated illegal immigrants arriving and overwhelmingly the hospitals. But instead of seeing that elephant in the room some people want to point fingers elsewhere.

Actually, while I reading through Gov Abbott's Proclamations, he has mandated that all medical facilities submit daily reports regarding COVID cases to the Texas Dept of State Health Services. The relevant data is readily available through their coronavirus portal:
Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)
Curent hospital summary:

Lab Confirmed COVID-19 Patients
11,552
Currently in Texas Hospitals

Total Staffed Hospital Beds
63,702

Available ICU Beds

Available Ventilators
6,417

Total Staffed Inpatient Beds

Quoting DeSantis doesn't provide much in the way of good arguments given how Florida has been doing lately:

Florida COVID surge getting worse; wildfire smoke linked to cases

'There are only so many beds': COVID-19 surge hits hospitals

From the second article:

That’s still nowhere close to the nearly 124,000 people who were in the hospital at the very peak of the winter surge in January. But health experts say this wave is perhaps more worrying because it has risen more swiftly than prior ones. Also, a disturbingly large share of patients this time are young adults.

And to the frustration of public health experts and front-line medical workers, the vast majority of those now hospitalized are unvaccinated.

You're quoting DeSantis, who banned mask mandates in schools, to try to explain why some people refuse to get vaccinated. So what do you propose, then? He banned mask mandates in schools and talked about why some people supposedly refuse to get vaccinated. What's the solution? To pretend that nothing is happening and take almost no measures against COVID while cases continue to fill up hospitals?

How did you get all this from a 6min clip?

The point was government officials and people shouldn't guilt trip anyone to get the vaccine. It's counterproductive.

The message is the same regardless who says it.

I don’t see how this added anything. No one has said that the medical facilities aren’t stressed. None of this data answers why. It doesn’t answer how many of the Covid cases were vaccinated. It doesn’t answer how many are unvaccinated immigrants.

1) There are indeed data showing that most new hospitalizations are occurring among unvaccinated people:

Hospitalizations Spike In States With Low Vaccination Rates As Unvaccinated Covid Patients Fill ICUs

2) I made no assumption that "any unvaccinated were simply being obdurate." However, I'm sure some of them were. This is now beside the point, however, as the main focus should be on how to prevent further damage, not play a blame game for what has already happened.

3) There are multiple states with an ongoing struggle due to COVID outbreaks. It is reasonable to conclude that illegal immigrants are far from the main cause of that; there are other factors that all need to be addressed by those with the power to do so instead of pointing fingers at illegal immigrants as if they were the cause of the current dire situation.

Almost every time I make a point in this thread, you either don't fully address it in your responses or you arrive at some bizarrely tangential or unrelated conclusions about what I meant or what different data show.

I don't think trying to discuss this with you any further is likely to be fruitful or productive. It's clear to me that you're too focused on justifying your own decision regarding vaccination to be able to stop being so overly defensive and start addressing the points being raised here.

Have a nice day.

No. It is quite reasonable to address the unvaccinated illegal immigrants as one of the prime causes of the recent increase in cases. Downplaying the significance of them as one of the sources is wrong.

What is your evidence that unvaccinated illegal immigrants are one of the primary causes of the recent surge in cases? If you have a reliable source showing that, then I'm willing to acknowledge that as one of the primary causes per the evidence. I definitely haven't seen such evidence, though.

I couldn't find any data for breakthrough hospitalizations.

However, it is reported that 35.8% of Covid cases are Hispanic, which is just under the percentage of 39.7% of the total population of Texans being Hispanic. From the data, it does not appear that the hospitals are being overwhelmed with illegals.
