I also think those who dress immodestly in public are harming the children they display themselves to, and if you go out in public, you are going to run into children.

With all due respect, why should I care what men want me to wear at all? That's the last thing I think about when I get dressed in the morning. The first thing is "how hot is it out there?" If it's hot, I throw on some skimpy clothes. If it's cold, I throw on a sweater.

How do you think the sight of my legs, arms, shoulders and neck is going to "harm children"? That's a bizarre notion.

When I say modest I don't mean nun garments. A modest woman in my culture just means at least to the knees and not showing cleavage.
I don't believe in a black and white reality. What is modest an immodest is entirely cultural from my pov.

Actually my experience over in America was the same as in Aus. If I'm dressed even slightly sexily then I attract a lot of unwelcome attention from strange men who actually go as far as to make me feel unsafe. It's not that all men are creeps but there are enough creeps to make wearing a simple low cut top an uncomfortable experience.

Maybe you're not ugly enough. I never get harassed or made to feel unsafe.

Seriously, though, predators look for people who seem awkward or uncomfortable. If showing a bit more skin than you're comfortable with makes you feel awkward, that is more likely to be drawing the creeps or of the woodwork than whatever you're wearing.

For me, I'm pathologically comfortable in pretty much anything but business attire. If I can attain a full range of normal movements without a direct line of sight to my nipples or underpants from any direction I consider myself adequately covered up.

In the 21st century and in the second half of the previous century in many places neither men nor women dress in full.

Why this change from the nineteenth century? What factors brought it? Has this change not brought more family break ups in the West ? I think there are no scientific factors to cause it?

The liberating death of puritanism, and of sexual fears and repression, people starting to feel more at ease with their minds and bodies, people becoming more accepting, and the genral freedom that spread around the developed world in the last decades.

This is the big change that brought family break ups? I'm curious to read any sociology papers that support this. Both things were brought by a general increase in freedom and change in family values.

I think there are no scientific factors to cause it?

I'm curious to hear about these scientific factors.

The fact that women are now no longer the property of men (husbands/fathers) and are free to choose to leave an unsatisfactory relationship has more to do with it. Not to mention that women are allowed to support themselves and have their own lives outside of the house.

And I couldn't agree more. I work for a software company which makes financial software. There are two types of people who work at this company, and two distinct ways of dressing. There are the marketing people who come to work in full suits (if they are men) or quite tight often short dresses (if they are women), and then there are the developers that usually show op in shorts and T-shirts and walk around barefooted (at least now that it is summer).

I am a developer myself, and I feel so sorry for those men in suits. How can those poor guys think when wearing clothes like that (come to think of it maybe that explains some of the strange desissions thay make some times )

I remember I used to use shorts, but I was quickly made to understand jeans are supposed to be more fashionable and attractive to females.

I wear shorts, t shirts, sleeveless shirts, a speedo to the pool, sandals and flip flops during the everyday, and I had a job as a photographer that I used to walk around shirtless most of the day. In short...

Actually, that was the general argument against every advance in Women's rights from voting to pants to birth control and everything in between.
