Mosque at Ground Zero

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
rakhel, don't you get it yet? It's not enough - it's never enough - to grant people their rights. No, no, no. If you don't BUY INTO THEIR BELIEF SYSTEM - if you don't validate their value system - then no matter how much room you give them to exercize their rights, you are still the boogy man.

Now - it doesn't matter at all if they have disdain for YOUR personal value system.

Therein lies the hypocricy.

Oh, please. I don't even believe you believe that.

Let me see if I understand what she meant.

One acknowledges that they have a right to build the mosque.
But given that, one must not criticize its construction as inappropriate.
the lack of criticism is tantamount to one approving of it & of whatever agenda it represents.

Am I close?

Bigot starts ground zero church: Where's the outrage?

A bigoted pastor who has assailed gays and Muslims is launching the "9-11 Christian Center at Ground Zero" a mere two blocks from the World Trade Center site this Sunday, but so far the project hasn't drawn a peep of protest from those who are outraged by the "ground zero mosque."
Pastor Bill Keller of Florida said today he will begin preaching Sunday at the Marriott at 85 West Street (see proximity to ground zero here). A weekly service is planned at the hotel until the $8 million 9/11 Christian Center finds a permanent space. (Fundraising is going well, Keller told Salon today.)
To get a sense of where Keller is coming from, consider his project's website, which calls Islam a religion of "hate and death" whose adherents will go to hell. It also says: "Islam is a wonderful religion... for PEDOPHILES!"
Keller is the same pastor who hosted a birther infomercial that encouraged viewers to send him and a partner donations to advance the birther cause. His Internet ministry explicitly calls President Obama the new Hitler. He calls homosexuality a perversion. And in 2008, he targeted presidential contender Mitt Romney for being Mormon with a campaign called "voting for Satan."

I think you're forgetting that the same people decrying the mosque near "ground zero" are the same people who would LOVE this guy's church. In fact, I'm surprised they aren't praising his efforts loudly.

Personally, I think they should build another trade center.

If there is a death in the family, you can either leave the the room as is as a memorial, or, after a time, utilize the room as it was intended.
Any psychologist will tell you there is a time to move on.
(Not to mention it is a big old middle finger to those who thought they could bring us down.)

My husband has said the exact same thing only had an extra story. (He has also suggested a lady liberty on each building with her middle fingers pointing toward the four winds)

I think that's pretty close, and that's the problem. No one is saying you can't or "must not" criticize it. We're just saying there's no good reason to criticize it.

Firstly, it's not a mosque.

Secondly, it's not at Ground Zero.

Thirdly, no-one's ******** about the Japanese garden near Pearl Harbour.

Conclusion, shutup unless you can prove that the imam leading the effort has radical or terrorist leanings.

In their honour? I wouldn't be surprised if they thought the Muslims planning the centre were traitors, not real Muslims, etc. I don't think fundamentalists appreciate Sufis.

That, and considering that the mosque is pretty much a prayer room in a community centre, I don't foresee any victory parades.

And seriously, even if it was a mosque right on 'Ground Zero', why would that make them think "they outright won the war"? Wouldn't that consist of America turning into an Islamic state or something along those lines?

What a great victory for Americans, in that case; being intimidated by the mere idea of some fundamentalists jumping for joy into protesting this building.

-shakes head-

Actually i'm a Canadian, i live in British Columbia and i could care less if America is turned in to an islamic state or something of that nature. These are just facts, people living in islamic countries will hear of a mosque being built on ground zero, and they'll believe its a victory. This argument actually came right from a muslim Imam.

I don't foresee that happening to the US, and I'm quite sure you would care, considering that Canada might lose a major training partner and all that.

I don't live in an 'Islamic country', but the majority here are Muslims. Maybe I should ask them what they think? And good for that imam: he represents the beliefs of all Muslims, right?

Some poll says that 70 percent of Americans think building the "mosque" is a bad idea.

You can fool most of the people, most of the time.

the problem isnt that all muslims ae bad, but this is going to rally those muslims that are anti-religious in to believing they outright won the war, a mosque in their honor is being built nearly right beside the site of their successful attack! what a victory!

Lol - just as the Phelps family rejoices at the proliferation of those gay-marrying UU churches.

A brief lesson: The Muslim terrorist hate America. They could care less if it's a full blown, golden plated, diamond studded mosque. It's still American, it's still evil, and if it's plausible that they wouldn't care if it gets destroyed in another attack. Hell, they probably hate the Muslim group wanting to put it up because they do not follow the same denomination, and don't share the same enthusiasm for their own Jihad.
